Rimping Village is a small resort outside of the city center across the Ping River. It is quiet and intimate, with only 34 rooms, and staff were attentive during our visit. While the resort does not have facilities like a fitness center or spa, it does have a decent-sized pool out on a sunny terrace, and its restaurant sits in a leafy garden that's home to a century-old banyan tree and other tropical foliage. Big, attractive rooms have terra-cotta tile and dark wood furniture. Bicycles are available for guests to use, making the city center less than a 10-minute ride away.
Scene
A laid-back, relaxing small hotel with tropical foliage and a sunny pool terrace
Families and young couples constitute the majority of guests here. The resort is well-suited to those looking to stay outside of the city center -- to better enjoy the swimming pool and outdoor gardens -- who don't mind riding bicycles to get into town. The outdoor terrace restaurant sits under the trees, and the property's vibe here is very relaxed. As the city center and tourist attractions are not right outside, when guests go out they tend to be gone for the day, so the resort is quiet, especially with there only being 24 rooms. The building is constructed of white stucco and dark woods, and wooden gates open to the grounds and main entrance. The property wraps around the pool on three sides, and the casual lobby is decorated with terra-cotta tiles, wood furniture and wall paneling, and wicker accents.
Location
Across the river from town with an excellent shopping center nearby
The Rimping Village sits across the Ping River, outside of the center of Chiang Mai. While the historic old city is not within walking distance, it can be reached using the free bicycles that the resort offers, and several alleyway shortcuts make this a practical way to get into town. While the resort is out of the central downtown and doesn't have much in the way of nightlife or dining nearby, it is just around the corner from the city's most stocked supermarket, the elegant Rimping Market, along with a small mall with some eateries and shops.
Rooms
Bright interiors and large deluxe rooms
Rooms at the Rimping Village are not overly fancy, but they do come with bright, airy interiors, and the Rimping Deluxe Rooms especially are extra large. The dark wood furniture, terra-cotta tile, and beige bedding with subtly striped accent pillows feels Thai, but with a vaguely Southwestern U.S. twist. All rooms feature free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, writing desks, Nespresso machines, and chairs to sit outside -- either on private balconies or in the exterior hallways. Some chairs face the swimming pool.
Features
Pleasant sunny pool area and free bicycles
The Rimping Village is a small property with only a few features. The one restaurant is set around a sunny pool terrace, and serves a free breakfast that includes both Western and Thai options -- eggs, pancakes, noodles, sticky rice, fresh fruit, and more. Room service is available and free Thai tea is served with snacks is served in the afternoon. The medium-size swimming pool is surrounded by a lush garden that has plenty of tropical plants and trees, including a 100-year-old banyan tree that towers over everything. Additionally, there are plenty of free bicycles for guests to use should they wish to go to town, and transportation through the hotel can be arranged at the front desk.
