Bottom Line

The 443-room Warwick Allerton-Chicago is one of the few hotels right on the Magnificent Mile, and its rooms -- with soothing blue-and-white color schemes, iPod docks, and flat-screen TVs -- are more modern and stylish than those at the neighboring Omni and Intercontinental hotels. But unlike its neighbors the hotel lacks a pool, and its rooms offer significantly less space than the Omni's generic two-room suites.

Rooms

Stylish, with high-tech amenities, but some are on the small side

The Warwick Allerton-Chicago's boutique-y rooms received a major, $60 million overhaul in the early 2000s, and the stylish Art Deco-inspired decor honors the history of the 1920's-era building. Rooms are decorated in shades of blue and white, and come with 32-inch flat-screen TVs and iPod docks. The marble bathrooms are cute, with old-fashioned pedestal sinks and (in most) glass walk-in showers with rain showerheads. But the the too-high kick-flush on the toilet is a little awkward.

Since this is a historic hotel, some of the rooms are on the small side; they start at around 200 square feet.

  • High-quality Bath and Bodyworks toiletries
  • 32-inch flat-screen TV with cable access and on-demand movies
  • Marble bathroom with standing shower and rain showerhead (in most rooms)
  • iHome docking station
  • Safe big enough for a 17-inch laptop
  • Soft terry towels
  • Upgrading to one of the suites will get you a separate living room.
