Hotel Ca D'Andrean was built as a residence and winery in the 1800s, and some of the original architecture and artifacts remain. For instance, there's a stone mill, olive oil making equipment, and a stone fireplace. Guests enter through a dark stone entrance, into the small lobby, and stairs lead up to the guest rooms. Breakfast can be enjoyed in a charming nook decorated with brick details and vintage photographs. The adjacent garden is set with white patio furniture and filled with lemon trees and flowers. Other than the dining spaces and a small seating area near the reception desk, the hotel doesn't have any public spaces. Guests are a mixture of couples and families, nearly all of them are tourists. The hotel is operated by the Italian owner and he's usually on hand to make dinner reservations, provide train timetables, and answer questions.

Cars are not allowed into the village, so if you arrive with one you'll have to park it in the lot (for a cost) or on the road (for free) directly outside of the village, then walk in. It's a little less than a mile and mostly downhill to the hotel's front door from the parking lot. On the way, you'll pass an idyllic stream, church bell tower, and gorgeous ocean views. Just across the street is a focacceria and a sporting goods store. It's another five minutes on foot downhill to the water, train, and trail head. The small village is definitely charming, but it does get super crowded with day trippers who arrive by boat and train. Crowds tend to thin out in the evenings. Pisa International Airport is about an hour and 20 minutes away. Genoa Airport is just under two hours, and it's about two hours and 20 minutes to Florence.
