Adagio Koln City

From the patchwork design of the front desk to the swirling ceiling to the seating in bold Crayola colors, Adagio Koln City is packed with delightful design quirks. Boldly painted statement walls and seating areas add a bright element to the beige-toned hexagonal tiles on floors. The breakfast room, with its lime-green and turquoise color scheme, funky-style plastic chairs, wooden tables, and shelves in the serving area that weave and bob along the wall, especially pops. But there's no bar where guests can hang out, and apart from the lobby's seating areas, there's no real spot for them to mix and mingle; most guests stay in their apartments. The Adagio is best suited to tourists and business travelers seeking self-catering units suited to extended stays.

Adagio Koln City might not be smack in the middle of everything, but it’s still within walking distance of most of Cologne’s major attractions. Cologne Cathedral and Museum Ludwig are about a 15-minute walk from the hotel, while the Cologne Chocolate Museum is a 13-minute walk away. The surrounding area has some cafes, bars, and restaurants, and more can be found within a 10-minute walk. For shopping, there's a mall about 10 minutes away. There's a bus stop and a U-bahn and tram stop five to six minutes on foot from the hotel. It’s an 18-minute drive to Cologne/Bonn Airport. 

The Aparthotel Adagio Koln City has 115 bright, efficiently designed apartments, with light-wood IKEA-style furniture and a punchy modern design the echoes the public spaces. Studios can sleep up to two guests, while One-Bedroom Apartments can fit four, though at 114 to 131 square feet, these apartments are small. Bedrooms have bold red accent walls contrasting crisp white bedding. Large prints of Cologne sights add a sense of place. Living rooms have the most playful design with more color and retro-elements, including turquoise sofas and molded chairs in neon yellow. The small living rooms hold couches, flat-screen TVs (bedrooms also have TVs), and work desks.

While kitchenettes are compact, they're efficiently designed and come with full-size refrigerators, sinks, microwaves, four-burner stoves, dishwashers, and Moulinex kettles and coffeemakers. Plates and cooking utensils are provided. Basic supplies, such as salt-sugar kits and dishwashing soap and sponges, are on hand, but not coffee and tea. Units also include safes, irons and ironing boards, and free basic Wi-Fi, although the signal can be slow. Some guests have complained about the air-conditioning and heating as well. 

Bathrooms also have a touch of whimsy with deep-orange accent walls and sink basins in a twisting shape. They are outfitted with showers or shower/tub combos and heated towel racks. Hairdryers, toiletries, and magnifying mirrors are provided. Housekeeping is weekly, though daily cleaning is available for a fee. The hotel does offer smoking rooms, which can be found on a single floor. 

As with many self-catering properties, the Adagio has few hotel amenities. A basic breakfast buffet includes some hot dishes, but it costs an additional fee. There’s also a small, 24-hour gym with three cardio machines, free weights, and a flat-screen TV. While there's no formal business center, a public Mac desktop computer is available in the lobby. Free basic Wi-Fi is available throughout, but speeds can be slow. Guests can upgrade to high-speed Wi-Fi for a fee. Units lack their own washer/dryers, but a coin-operated laundry room is on the premises. On-site garage parking is available for a fee as well.
