Bottom Line

Hotel Dann Carlton Belfort is an upper-middle-range, corporate-feeling hotel in a peaceful neighborhood that’s walking distance from Medellin’s touristy El Poblado district. The 98 rooms are spacious and modern, with well-stocked minibars and pleasant views, though some are sparsely furnished, and bathrooms are a tad basic. Decor elsewhere is also attractive, if somewhat generic and a bit dated in parts. Facilities include a small, attractive outdoor pool with a hot tub, plus a Turkish bath, large fan-cooled gym, and a full-service spa. The restaurant serves good a-la-carte Italian dishes, there’s a separate bar, and the extensive free breakfast buffet is popular. There are also meeting facilities, and free Wi-Fi and parking. As an alternative, the four-and-a-half-pearl Charlee Hotels has trendier interiors and an aquarium-style pool, though rates are higher.

Hotel Dann Carlton Belfort

Scene

Elegant, but slightly generic, old-fashioned and corporate-feeling hotel, popular with business travelers and families

Though it’s primarily a business hotel, this Dann Carlton also attracts its fair share of families. It’s set in a tall, modern, purpose-built brick structure, attractively nestled between trees and sloping grass lawns. Inside, the lobby is elegant but rather dark, with plain white ceilings, off-white floor tiling, and central chandelier-style downlighting over lovely fresh flower displays. There are somewhat dated beige fabric and black leather armchairs and sofas, intimate-feeling dark-wood desks with cream-upholstered high-backed chairs, and a large, curved dark-wood front desk. One side of the lobby has gorgeous brick accent walls, and atrium-style windows that make this space brighter than elsewhere. Hallways are decorated with white walls and swirly patterned brown-and-orange hospitality-style carpets. Handsome stairwells feature brick walls and beautiful wooden steps. The natural-feeling outdoor areas, shrouded in trees, are a highlight.

Rooms

Spacious, bright and modern rooms, though slightly generic and sparsely furnished; bathrooms a tad basic

The 98 rooms and suites here are spacious, bright and modern, though they are on the generic side, and some feel rather sparsely furnished given their size. There’s attractive wood-paneled flooring, plain white walls, and white linens with red throws, plus built-in dark-wood headboards and bedside tables with elegant cream lamps, and small dark-wood-grain desks. Small-ish windows are framed by neutral curtains, and provide fairly pleasant views of neighboring hotel blocks and greenery.

Junior Suites add relatively chic red-upholstered ottomans; they also have larger windows, plus connected lounges with somewhat garish brown sofa beds, and dining tables to seat four. One-bedroom Suites incorporate the same furniture into separate lounges. Amenities in all units include flat-screen TVs, phones, free Wi-Fi, safes, and minibars, but no coffee- and tea-making facilities. Irons and ironing boards are available on request from the front desk.

Dressing areas just outside the bathrooms feature slightly dated white-gray marble-effect vanities, submerged sinks, and magnifying mirrors. Bathrooms themselves are a tad basic, sporting white floor and wall tiling, and shower-tub combos with fixed and power showerheads. Suites have two bathrooms; the second is an all-in-one setup with a walk-in shower. Hairdryers and miniature toiletries are provided.
