Hotel Christian IV

Located on a quiet side street in central Copenhagen, Hotel Christian IV offers a practical base without much in the way of embellishment. A plain white building with cobalt-blue awnings, the Hotel Christian IV has an unassuming presence with an entrance marked by a pair of Danish flags. Inside, the common areas are small and simple with neutral carpeting, white walls accented with modern art, and basic furniture, like a simple black couch and a basic armchair. The tiny lobby contains a few seats, a small reception desk, and a tourist information station loaded with brochures, as most guests are budget-minded tourists. 

The Hotel Christian IV is conveniently located on a relatively quiet side street in the heart of central Copenhagen. The hotel borrows its name from the Danish king who built the Rosenberg Castle and whose gardens are directly across the street. The property is also in walking distance to plenty of cafes and restaurants, and it's less than a 15 minute walk to several popular areas, such as Strøget and Nyhaven. And guests can walk to public transportation that can take them virtually anywhere in Copenhagen.

Much like the rest of the property, guest rooms at Hotel Christian IV are basic but functional. Somewhat dated but clean, the tiny Single Rooms and the almost-as-tiny Small Double Rooms are largely unadorned and filled with neutral colors like beige, dark green, and navy. Standard and Superior Double Rooms also have generic decor, but are more attractive and slightly larger, with wood floors instead of carpeting, framed pictures on the wall, and a larger desk and seating area. Bathrooms are similarly standard fare, with full-tiled walls and a shower in one corner that can be enclosed with hanging curtains. Toiletries consist of a wall-mounted combined hair-and-body-wash pump dispenser. 

Guests agree that while the rooms and bathrooms are small, they're the standard size for a value hotel in Copenhagen. Each room has a flat-screen TV, hairdryer, and desk, but few other amenities, though guests can borrow items such as an iron and ironing board, and on-site luggage storage help alleviate space issues. 

Rooms have access to free Wi-Fi, though some guests say it’s spotty, and while there's no in-room coffee service, coffee and snacks are available all day in the common areas. Guests who would like a mini-fridge or fan in the room can request them ahead of time, free of charge.
