Bottom Line

The three-and-a-half-pearl Phoenix Copenhagen is a historic hotel that has maintained an elegant atmosphere and design, especially with its latest renovation of the rooms in 2017. It's conveniently located on the Bredgade, for fast access to art galleries and restaurants. Couples and business travelers flock here for the English-inspired cafe and brasserie that serves a hot and cold breakfast (for a fee), a modest fitness center, and five meeting rooms. While most of the 213 rooms are trendy in design and are equipped with minibars and flat-screen TVs, not all units have air-conditioning or coffee- and tea-making facilities; some rooms suffer from street noise. Hotel Kong Arthur is a good alternative with a spa, multiple dining options, and kettles in all units.

Phoenix Copenhagen

Scene

Elegant historic hotel with a clientele of couples and business travelers

Phoenix Copenhagen is housed in a striking white building that dates back to the 1680s. The hotel’s elegant style is readily apparent in the stylish lobby where white marble floors pair with a circular crown molding design of the ceiling. Plush gray, purple, and white seating is available next to a water fountain in the center of the room that sets a quiet and relaxing tone. Speaking to the hotel’s historic nature, there are paintings that span across the centuries displayed on the walls in gold frames and antique chandeliers. The restaurant has a cozy upscale vibe with red leather banquettes and chairs that wrap around the walls, framing the central wooden bar. A large display of books and ample natural light are great elements to the space. Outside, there's a charming terrace with seating, umbrellas, and lamps. Couples and business travelers mostly stay here, attracted by the hotel’s central location and elegant design.

Rooms

(Mostly) modern and upscale rooms with flat-screen TVs and minibars; not all have air-conditioning

All guest rooms underwent renovations that were completed in 2017, and it shows. The rooms maintain the elegance that Phoenix Copenhagen has been known for but features a new stylish design fit for this century. The cream walls with white trim contrast with the dark gray bedding and carpet. It’s easy to see the attention to detail in the fine velour fabric of the armchairs and the silver wall lamps placed on either side of the trendy cream headboards on a silver statement wall behind the beds. Note that Deluxe Suites look more old fashioned with royal blue carpet and fussy drapes. All rooms have minibars, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and safes. Only upper-level Executive Rooms and Suites feature Nespresso machines. Not all rooms have air-conditioning, and with those that do have it, it only works during certain times of the year . The white marble bathrooms with black countertops fit in with the design style of the rooms. They’re equipped with shower/tub combos, toiletries made in Denmark, and hairdryers. Take note that some rooms experience bothersome street noise.
