Scandic Palace Hotel

Located along the bustling City Hall Square and next to the Strøget pedestrian street in the heart of Copenhagen, the Scandic Hotel occupies a historic 1910 building designed by Danish architect Anton Rosen and inspired by Art Nouveau style. With a red brick facade, green-patinated copper and golden accents, arched windows and a rising central tower, the structure announces its Old-World charm instantly. The hotel's interior decor combines antique charm and modern simplicity to create an ambiance of sophisticated romance -- think golden lamp shades, red accents, high-backed black armchairs, and a plethora of glass and candelabra-style chandeliers. Hallways have red carpeting, spherical pendant lights, and plain white walls, while marbled stairways feature glass chandeliers and gold-relief accents. The hotel’s central location makes the Scandic Palace ideal for both business guests and tourists, though its romantic details also make it a sweet spot for couples.

Conveniently located right on the bustling City Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen) in the heart of Copenhagen, the Scandic Palace Hotel is truly in the middle of it all. The hotel is located at one end of the popular Strøget pedestrian and shopping street and is about a five-minute walk from both Tivoli and the National Museum of Denmark. The nearby Copenhagen’s Central Station is a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and it offers extensive city, regional, and international train service.

Rooms at the Scandic Palace are decorated in a way that reflects the sophisticated, romantic style of the hotel's common areas. Combining Old-World charm and modern simplicity, Executive Rooms have fresh white walls, wooden floors, red accent rugs, spherical golden lights, and chic black furniture. Other rooms are more basic, with gray carpeting, white walls, brown chairs, and white bedding with colorful accents in blue, red, or purple -- but even these rooms have a stylish candelabra-style chandelier. While the Economy Rooms in particular are small, they aren’t quite as tiny as the typical rooms in this category and come complete with a desk and chair, safe, AC, wall-mounted flat-screen TV, hairdryer, and free Wi-Fi. Any room larger than the Economy Room, including a Standard Room, also includes an iron, minibar, and kettle for coffee and tea. Some guests describe the hotels' beds as hard and uncomfortable, and others complain that the air-conditioning isn't sufficient to cool the room on hot days.

Bathrooms are chic, with full black-tiled floors and walls. Some have indulgent showers with giant showerheads and an additional hand-held shower wand, others have shower/tub combos. A few rooms have extra little luxuries; The Superior Twin Room, for example, includes a suspended sink and a large wall mirror with an extra magnifying mirror. There are both in-shower body wash dispensers and individual toiletries from The White Company Noir. 

The hotel offers some fantastic views of the city square, which guests can take advantage of from many of the front facing rooms, particularly those rooms with balconies. Light sleepers, though, may prefer an internal, courtyard-facing room, and should definitely avoid a room close to the frequently ringing church bells. 

The on-site bar is simple but stylish with chic details like black armchairs and a black wall dotted in lightbulbs. The restaurant has large, front-facing arched windows, wooden floors, long tables, and red-shaded pendant lights. A free breakfast buffet is also served here, and guests say the food is good with a generous but standard range of choices that includes breads, cereals, and cold cuts. A small lobby shop also offers grab-and-go snacks, coffee, and a few travelers' essentials. On the upper floors, hallways have tables offering free fruit and coffee. 

The fitness area is small and basic but with attractive light wood floors, towels, balance balls, and free weights in addition to a weight machine and four cardio machines. The hotel also has several on-site meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 70 people. Plus, it's pet-friendly and kid-friendly, offering a welcome gift for little ones, crayons and drawing paper, and a kids’ menu in the restaurant.

Laundry service, dry cleaning, and room service are also available for extra fees. Guests should note that there is no on-site or dedicated parking, and the nearby lot that most guests use is expensive.
