Bottom Line

The 26-room Katia Apartments is a small two-pearl property run by a Greek couple and is wildly popular with families. Clean but basic, functional apartments and studios sleep up to five and have full kitchen facilities. The nice size outdoor swimming pool area has lots of sun loungers and a shallow pool where kids can splash. A rocky beach with calm, clear water is accessed through the hotel's gardens. However, there aren't any facilities by the ocean and beach towels cost extra. Meals, non-wireless Internet, and air-conditioning also incur extra charges.

Katia Apartments

Scene

Budget apartment hotel

The scene at Katia Apartments is all about families, though couples who don't mind little ones would be happy here as well. The hotel is located directly next door to a kids' summer camp so expect noise when camp is in session in July and August. The lobby at the hotel shows a bit of personality with a painted lime green reception desk and green and purple window shades. Outside, the modern pool bar is tiled with blue and white mosaic tiles, then topped with a blue semi-transparent roof supported by white columns. White wicker chairs and white plastic tables surround the pool on a wooden deck.

Location

On a pebbly beach near Kassiop Village

Katia Apartments looks and feels isolated because you can't see any other properties from their garden grounds, but in reality the hotel has a convenient location. A walking path leads to a white rock lined beach with calm, clear water. There's a supermarket about a five-minute walk away and the tourist-friendly village of Kassiop is a leisurely 10 minutes from there. You'll need a car to explore further afield sandy beaches or Corfu. Note that Katia Apartments' nearest neighbor is a kids' summer camp which could be a noise problem in July and August.

Rooms

Studios and apartments with kitchen facilities and private balconies

There are 26 apartments and studios spread out between two buildings at Katia Apartments. Rooms sleep from two to five people and include updated kitchenettes with mini-fridges, electric burners, and complete sets of cutlery and dishes -- plus an electric kettle and toaster. All rooms have private verandas or balconies and overlook the swimming pool or gardens. Only one room has a sea view and it's available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Light wood furniture looks new but the dark wood stuff is a touch worn. Colorful curtains and hanging light fixtures add a bit of pizazz to the otherwise basic rooms. Bathrooms are clean and functional -- we've seen much smaller at this price point. In-room safes and air-conditioning cost extra.

Features

Swimming pool, beach access, and lots of extra charges

At this price point, private access to a public beach and the sparkling blue swimming pool are almost unheard of features -- but be prepared to pay extra for a lot of basics at Katia Apartments, including in-room air-conditioning. The restaurant serves three meals a day plus snacks and cocktails. Wi-Fi is free but there's a charge to use the hotel's computer with Internet. The billiards table is coin-operated though ping-pong is free. Staff provides fun entertainment like quiz nights and barbecues. A seasonal kids' corner with toys and games is set up for little ones in the summer.
