Bottom Line

The 40-room family-owned Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa Hotel is an upscale property set amid picturesque countryside, with beautiful views of Pollan Bay and the coastline. The hotel has a lovely spa that offers a wide range of treatments, as well as a heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room, and hot tub. There’s also a large and well-equipped fitness center, filled with cardio machines, weights, and exercise balls. Guests can take afternoon tea in the swanky Front Room, or dine at the casual Jack’s Bar and Restaurant, which has a kids’ play area and live music on weekends. The three types of rooms vary in size, but all are elegant and tastefully appointed, with modern comforts that include flat-screen TVs, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and free Wi-Fi. Though there’s not much in the tiny town of Ballyliffin besides a handful of eating places, there is a beautiful beach within walking distance of the hotel, and several sights are a short drive away.

Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa

Scene

Countryside spa hotel close to the beach

Set amid picturesque fields with beautiful views of the coastline and sea, the family-run Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa Hotel is a peaceful, upscale countryside retreat. Elegant interiors are full of swanky details like glass chandeliers, tufted leather armchairs, and plush curtains. The lobby has a round ceiling fresco from which a chandelier is suspended over round velvet seating. The decor extends to the dining areas, where the spacious Front Room is full of elegant seating and a light wooden bar that matches the wood floors. Beige walls are festooned with decorative flourishes, and there's a lovely fireplace. Jack’s Bar and Restaurant is more casual, with wooden tables and chairs, and a designated kids' play area with all sorts of games.

The hotel is popular with golfers, as the Ballyliffin Golf Club is a short drive away, as well as leisure travelers seeking a relaxing spa break. The nearby beach and kid-friendly amenities draw families. The property is also a popular wedding venue.
