Bottom Line

Akti Beach is a large three-pearl resort with a quiet waterfront spot just 15 minutes from Paphos town by car. Historic attractions and sandy beaches are all a short drive away -- though there's a pebbly swimming beach on-site. Facilities are top notch, with two outdoor pools, two restaurants, evening entertainment, a kids' club, and a spa with a gym and indoor pool. All-inclusive deals are available, with meal plans as well. It's a pretty resort, with 173 apartments in two-story whitewashed buildings. Rooms are simple and a touch dated, but they're all spacious and include air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and kitchenetttes. Travelers looking for a more polished finish could check out Aliathon Holiday Village, which also has a great kids' waterpark.

Akti Beach Village Resort

Scene

Large resort with a pebbly waterfront and plenty of space to kick back

Akti Beach Tourist Village is a large resort complex with pools, restaurants and a beach area. It's pretty typical for the area, in terms of scope and size, though the entire property is quite well kept and pleasant. The modern, airy lobby has a stylish exposed beamed ceiling and is decked with pale gray sofas. Paved, tree-lined pathways lead down to the rocky shoreline, running under pretty stone archways between the resort's other buildings. It's a busy proeprty, but there are plenty of spaces to kick back, both inside and out. The restaurant has poolside tables with views out to sea. Families flock to the resort, favoring it's all-inclusive options and facilities, but it's popular with groups and mature couples too.

Location

Quiet location on a pebbly shore, a 15-minute drive from Paphos town

The resort is located in a quiet spot, a 15-minute drive from Paphos town. There's not a lot nearby, but a public bus stop is a 10-minute walk away for local attractions and the town center. The hotel has swimming areas on a pebbled beach, and partly sandy Lighthouse Beach is about a 10-minute drive south of the hotel. Coral Bay -- the most popular sandy beach -- is 15 minutes away by car to the north. Shuttles to it can be booked through the hotel, but cost extra. Tomb of the Kings is a five-minute drive along the coast, and other historic attractions--  like Paphos Castle and the Archaeological Park -- are within a 20-minute drive. Budget 30 minutes to reach the airport, and it can take up to an hour to drive to the ferry terminal to neighboring islands.

Rooms

Bright apartments with plenty of space, plus balconies and kitchenettes, though bathrooms are tired

Rooms here are all apartment-style units that are helpful for people who like being a bit self-sufficient, though the hotel's all-inclusive rates mean that the majority of guests do little cooking of their own. There are Studios, and One- and Two-Bedroom Apartments. Decor is light and airy, with cool stone floors, whitewashed walls, and light wood furniture. It all has a country-home look, though the landscape watercolors and wicker accents do look just a touch dated. All units are spacious -- even Studio Rooms can sleep up to four with double sofa beds in the living areas. All rooms have kitchenettes with ovens, stovetops, microwaves, fridges, sinks, kettles, and toasters. There are dining tables for four, and balconies or patios. Common amenities include air-conditioning, safes (fee), flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, internet connections can be spotty. Bear in mind there are only three Two-Bedroom Apartments, so early booking is essential for these. Bathrooms have bold blue tilling that looks a bit tired, but they're perfectly usable, with shower/tub combos and basic bath products.

Features

Two outdoor pools, spa with gym, and indoor pool plus two restaurants and bar with entertainment

Features at Akti Beach are on par with most other mid-range options on Paphos. For starters, there's a large main pool with a separate kids' pool, plus another smaller pool that stays much quieter and generally attracts fewer kids. The main restaurant has some poolside seating, and serves buffet breakfasts and themed evening buffets. A la carte dishes are also available. A second poolside restaurant serves a daily buffet lunch, plus light meals and drinks. The lobby bar has snacks as well as drinks, and nightly entertainment. Guests can opt for all-inclusive, half-board, or self-catering deals, though food can get repetitive and drinks on the all-inclusive plan can be underwhelming. There's a kids' club beside the pool, with climbing equipment, and guests can use the water-park at the next door hotel (for a fee). Mini-discos are offered for kids in the evening, and there's a ping-pong table for older children. The spa has an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, and whirlpool, with a range of treatments. It also has a gym with machines, free weights, and a couple of cardio machines. There are outdoor tennis courts, a variety of activities such as exercise classes, and a pebbled swimming area. Wi-Fi is free throughout, though it's pretty patchy.
