Bottom Line

The upper-middle-range, Sheraton Dallas Hotel at the Galleria is a clean chain property that went through a $17 million renovation in 2012. It caters primarily to business travelers during the week and leisure travelers visiting the nearby Dallas Galleria on weekends. Its 309 guest rooms are comfortably sized, clean, and include a microwave, mini-fridge, and coffeemaker. Concierge services and free shuttle to the Galleria are premium amenities. But, parking and in-room Wi-Fi cost extra. Several alternatives exist nearby, including the Westin Galleria Dallas, which is attached to the Galleria and offers free parking.

Oyster Hotel Review

Fresh and bright lobby bustling with business travelers and shoppers

Given its location near a major freeway and numerous corporate buildings, this Sheraton stays busy with business travelers during the week and leisure travelers on weekends who book rooms to enjoy the Dallas Galleria. Airline crews also frequent this casual and comfortable hotel. This property received a top-to-bottom renovation in 2012, and its lobby illustrates the upgrade. It’s bright and contemporary, with white walls and floor tiles, distinctive furniture, and tasteful accents of natural wood columns and paneling. The spacious area is set with several living room-like sitting clusters that are bordered by partitions and sectional sofas. A nearby business center has several computer stations and a table for small meetings. The Front Yard restaurant also features a crisp and clean design with white floors and chairs with chocolate brown accents, light wood ceiling panels, and a long, black granite-topped bar framed by natural wood.

Off of the Dallas Parkway and a three-minute drive to Dallas Galleria shops

This hotel is located near the intersection of the Dallas Parkway and Interstate 635/LBJ Freeway, about an 18-minute drive north of downtown Dallas. It's less than one mile -- a three-minute drive or shuttle ride -- to the Dallas Galleria and its 400 shops and restaurants. It's possible to walk to the Galleria on sidewalks in about 10 minutes, but the walk is mostly in a business district that empties out at night. Attractions downtown, like the American Airlines Center and Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center, can be reached in about 20 to 25 minutes of driving, depending on traffic. The Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas is a 20-minute drive. Southern Methodist University is approximately 15 to 20 minutes by car, as are the University of Texas at Dallas and University of Dallas. Brookhaven College is a seven-minute drive. Dallas Love Field Airport is 20 to 25 minutes away by car, and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is 25 to 30 minutes by car. AT&T Stadium and Six Flags Arlington are 30 to 40 minutes away by car. Many restaurants, other hotels, and retail shops are within a brief drive.

Tastefully decorated and includes a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffeemaker

Room renovations were part of this Sheraton's $17 million upgrade in 2012. Each room is clean and tastefully decorated, but still short of upscale, and some of the furniture already shows signs of aging with nicks and general wear. Low-pile, rust-colored wall-to-wall carpets; tan drapes with thin red-and-blue stripes; and beige painted walls give a neutral backdrop. Headboards, nightstands, oval side tables, and dresser/desk combos come in a reddish-brown wood laminate. Standard rooms are of average size for a mid-range hotel and come in king, queen, and two-queen bed options. Dressers are topped with 32-inch flat-screen TVs, while glass-topped desks hold coffeemakers and electronic safes large enough to accommodate laptops. Ergonomic leather office chairs and tan upholstered armchairs give seating. And microwaves and mini-fridges are stacked together, a convenient pairing. Bathrooms continue the earth tones with a tan granite vanity, beige floor tiles, and standard white tiles framing the shower/tub combo. Robes and slippers are standard in all rooms. Wi-Fi is accessible, but it’s only free for SPG members who book through the hotel's website. Various suites are available and include separate sitting rooms with sofas, coffee tables, and second flat-screen TVs. Club-level guests gain access to the club lounge that offers a free continental breakfast and afternoon hors d’oeuvres. Past guests report that rooms facing the freeway can hear road noise, and some air-conditioning units are rather noisy. Views are primarily of the adjacent freeway or surrounding office buildings.

Free area shuttle, outdoor pool, and a charge for breakfast

Features at the Sheraton Dallas cater to both business and leisure travelers. The Front Yard restaurant and bar serves all meals, and a breakfast area serves a hot breakfast buffet. But breakfast is not included in standard room rates. The club-level lounge offers a free continental breakfast and afternoon hors d’oeuvres, as well as free office supplies and free copier, printing, and fax services for guests who book higher-category rooms. The hotel’s convenience store sells sundries, snacks, beverages, and frozen entrees. There are 21 meeting rooms with the largest space at 4,000 square feet. The 24-hour business center has four computer stations with Internet access, a printer, and a six-person desk with plug-ins for small meetings. The 24-hour fitness center is spacious and includes numerous cardio and weight-training machines, free weights, and mats for floor exercises. The outdoor pool area is set with several lounge chairs and tables. Concierge services are offered, as are valet laundry and dry cleaning. There is an ATM and safe deposit box at the front desk. Free Wi-Fi is available in the lobby, and vending machines are there as well. Free newspapers are available on weekdays. Parking is on-site, for a fee, in a secure lot. The hotel operates a free shuttle service to various points in the immediate area, including the Dallas Galleria. Pets are welcome for a surcharge.
