Bottom Line

Warwick Melrose Hotel, Dallas is an upscale landmark property in Uptown that dates back to 1924. Its 184 rooms are clean and spacious, with marble bathrooms, robes, minibars, and Keurig coffeemakers. Highlights include an ornate lobby, an elegant ballroom that's popular for weddings, a fine-dining restaurant, and a boisterous lounge that regularly features live music performances. The hotel's fitness center is nicely equipped, but there’s no pool or spa. There's also a free shuttle takes guests within a three-mile radius, but guests with cars should note that parking is valet-only and it’s expensive. Travelers looking for a hip, modern vibe might prefer the upscale Hotel Zaza nearby, but should expect to pay more.

Warwick Melrose – Dallas

Scene

Historic landmark hotel with an ornate lobby and popular piano lounge and restaurant

This stately eight-story brick hotel opened in 1924 and attracts both tourists and business travelers as well as people from Dallas hosting weddings or on “staycations.”  The lobby is elegant and ornate, with hand-painted ceiling panels, white columns with gold trim, and beautiful gray marble floors plus traditional furniture, including some lovely antiques. The Library Bar piano lounge features vintage leather furniture, a marble-top bar, and red, damask pattern carpet, which make it look like a film setting from a bygone era. The fine-dining Landmark restaurant has a more modern motif, but it’s equally impressive, with striking marble tile floors and an impressive wall of wine bottles encased in glass.

Rooms

Spacious, elegant rooms with marble bathrooms, minibars, and Keurig coffeemakers

Rooms have a traditional understated elegance, with neutral-hued interiors. Amber-colored wood furniture and padded headboards with silver trim are paired with French Empire-inspired nightstands. While all rooms are big, the 21 Suites are especially spacious, with separate living rooms and kitchenettes. Roomy bathrooms are the most upscale feature, with beautiful gray marble floors and walls, shower/tub combos, magnifying mirrors, and windows with white plantation shutters, but they lack counter space. Standard amenities include  Keurig coffeemakers, minibars, safes, 42-inch flat-screen TVs, robes, and slippers. Some south-facing rooms on higher floors have nice views of the Dallas skyline. While rooms are generally quiet, especially those on higher floors, ambient noise can be heard from the busy street and neighboring rooms at times.

Features

Fine-dining restaurant, piano bar, free shuttle, fitness center, concierge, and event space

In terms of features, Warwick Melrose's biggest draw could be its Library Bar, a classic piano bar with live entertainment nightly that's popular with locals and visitors alike. The bar shares a kitchen with the fine-dining Landmark Restaurant, which serves Nouveau-Americana cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Another major draw is the property's meeting spaces, which include a covered outdoor terrace and the elegant Grand Ballroom -- a popular wedding venue that can accommodate banquets for up to 200 people. In addition to meeting spaces, travelers can also make use of a 24/7 business center and an ATM in the lobby, where free coffee and newspapers are available. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, but requires signing up for the hotel’s free loyalty program.

There's no spa or pool, but the property does offer a bright and well-equipped fitness center with a good selection of cardio machines and free weights that's open 24/7. Valet parking is available, but it's expensive, particularly given the hotel is not located downtown. There's also a free shuttle that can transport guests anywhere within a three-mile radius. Pets are welcome for a fee.
