Bottom Line

Hotel Cavtat is a stylish mid-range property on Tiha Bay Beach and a five-minute walk from Cavtat's town center. Most of the 131 rooms range are renovated, bright, and modern, but a few rooms are still tired and dated. Most rooms have balconies with views of the sea and all rooms have free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. Along with a private beach, features include a rooftop infinity pool, two restaurants for buffet and a la carte meals, and two bars. The hotel is only open from April to October, and air-conditioning is only available during the high season. For lower rates, albeit without beach access, the Villa Radovic is a good choice with modern rooms.

Hotel Cavtat

Scene

Bright and stylish beach hotel with a friendly atmosphere

The Hotel Cavtat is a lovely place for a quiet (tiha means quiet in Croatian) getaway by Tiha Bay Beach, set apart from the hustle and bustle of town yet still within a five-minute walk of the action. The property is surrounded by trees and green lawns, and the turquoise Tiha Bay and Adriatic Sea are visible from the front of the hotel. Interiors are airy and modern. Loads of natural light accents the bright-white and royal-blue color scheme. Lobby furnishings have a retro '60s vibe with midcentury modern-style chairs and narrow cut-out coffee tables. Thanks to blue tones and the aquariums filled with goldfish, there's a soothing feeling throughout the property. The restaurants are likewise bold and modern, adding splashes of bright yellow and black. Guests are mostly coupled tourists who can be found gathered at the open-air cafe by the sea or relaxing around the rooftop pool.

Location

On the beach, five minutes' walk from town

Hotel Cavtat is situated on the beach of Tiha Bay, just a five-minute walk from the center of Cavtat town. Cafes, restaurants, bars, car rentals, and supermarkets are all within easy reach on foot. Cavtat is also home to some intriguing sights. The House of Vlaho Bukovac, now a museum and gallery (previously where the 19th-century Croatian painter lived) is 10 minutes' walk from the hotel. The 16th-century Rector's Palace is about seven minutes' walk. For more attractions and great restaurants, the city of Dubrovnik is located a 25-minute drive away. It offers Baroque and Gothic architecture, a charming Old Town, and Old Town walls with incredible Adriatic views. Dubrovnik Airport is less than 10 minutes' drive from the hotel and transportation can be arranged for a fee. A bus station located within a few minutes' walk of the hotel has regular service to Dubrovnik Old Town.

Rooms

Most rooms are bright and airy; many have balconies and sea views

Superior and Deluxe Rooms at the Hotel Cavtat have been renovated and appear bright and modern with soothing beige and white decor and large sea-facing windows. Light wood furnishings include desks, and large octopus murals behind the beds are an interesting touch. Decor in un-renovated rooms is a little worn out -- it's playful and casual, in shades of blue and white, with sea-themed murals behind the beds and tall rectangular lamps. Most rooms, regardless of age, have balconies. The Junior Suite includes a lovely furnished terrace and incredible sea views. Furnishings are avant garde: there's a table with a clock face and an enormous white molded chair. Standard amenities are a little light: flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and safes. Mini-fridges are available for a fee, and air-conditioning is only available during the high season. Bathrooms are simple and clean. These are done in blue-and-white tile, and are on the small side. They have cute basin sinks atop light green platforms and narrow shower stalls. Hairdryers and toiletries are provided.

A poolside bar is open for drinks and light snacks from May to October. The rooftop infinity pool has a lovely sun terrace with bay views and loungers and umbrellas. Guests can also head over to the private beach on Tiha Bay. A small spa offers massages, facials, and beauty treatments (for a fee). Parking is free but on a first-come first-served basis.
