Bottom Line

With 323 rooms, the upper-middle-range historic Plaza Resort & Spa is one of the biggest resorts in the area. It is located on a beautiful beach close to dining, shopping, and the convention center. Traditional rooms are spacious and come with microwaves and mini-fridges. Freebies include Wi-Fi, parking, bikes, water sports equipment, and activities. The oceanfront pool is a plus, as is the huge spa and on-site restaurant. Travelers looking for an alternative may save a few dollars at the nearby Daytona Beach Resort and Conference Center. It's not as distinctive as the Plaza, but it does have an indoor pool.

Plaza Resort & Spa

Scene

Grand historic hotel with attractions for all types of travelers

The Plaza Resort dates back to 1888 when it was built as a beach cottage. It was later turned into a hotel and became a "grand resort" in 1911. It's one of the larger resorts in the area, and its entrance off Atlantic Avenue is distinguished by a trademark clock tower. The historic property is shaped like a T, with nine- and 14-story wings. The exterior is painted a soft yellow with cream-colored arches and accents, and a red Spanish-tile roof. The two-story lobby is majestic, with huge wooden columns, marble floors, and antique detailing. Multiple seating areas allow guests to gather in the lobby for social or business meetings. Windows in back look out to the pool, beach, and courtyard. Although cars are allowed on Daytona Beach, the hotel's beach is a no-drive zone so it is car-free. The hotel draws all types of guests, from families and couples to business travelers and those attending events at the nearby Ocean Center.
