Scene
Simple motel-style property for budget-conscious vacationers
The two-story Roomba Inn & Suites is housed in a beige buildings with bright green and orange accents. Parking surrounds the building, and stairs provide access to the second floor. The small lobby has a couple of chairs, an ATM, and a flat-screen TV on the wall, plus a few bright pops of color from flowers and fabrics. A desk to the right has a computer for guests to use, and coffee is available. Like most budget properties, there aren't many common areas beyond the dated breakfast room. However, there is an area for picnicking, an outdoor pool, and, of course, the beach. The hotel draws plenty of budget-conscious travelers, including couples and families.
Location
Right on the beach within walking distance of dining, shopping, and entertainment
The hotel is conveniently located near the center of Daytona Beach. It's right on the sand and just a block away from South Atlantic Avenue, the main strip through town that's lined with plenty of other hotels. A Starbucks is right across the street, and there are multiple dining and entertainment venues within walking distance. The Daytona Beach Boardwalk, Peabody Auditorium, and the Daytona Lagoon are all within a short walk (12 minutes or less). Daytona International Speedway, Museum of Arts & Sciences, and Daytona Beach International Airport are all about 15 minutes away by car, and the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse is 25 minutes away.
Rooms
Basic rooms with microwaves and mini-fridges -- some with great views of the beach
Rooms are compact and basic, with blonde wood furnishings and beige walls, though an olive green accent wall behind the bed adds a bit of style to otherwise straightforward accommodations. Rooms have leaf-patterned carpets and generically expressionistic still lives on the walls, and a contemporary throw lies atop the beds' white sheets. We did spot some wear and tear on the furniture throughout. Amenities include Serta beds, 32-inch flat-screen TVs mounted on the wall, alarm clocks, free Wi-Fi, microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. Some rooms have kitchenettes featuring stove tops and sinks as well. Small bathrooms show signs of Florida's humidity taking its toll, with rust, peeling paint, and mildew all evident. Some rooms have great beach views and even include hot tubs, but balconies and patios are small and not private, and other rooms have views of the parking lot.
Features
Direct beach access, free continental breakfast, and outdoor pool overlooking the ocean
The star of the show here is the beach, which sits just behind the hotel. It's a wide stretch of sand that's ideal for swimming and sunbathing, and there are a few volleyball nets as well, though the steps to the beach could use a fresh coat of paint. Free continental breakfast is served each morning in a spacious room with plenty of seating. Options are standard, and include breads, cereals, juices, and hot drinks. There is no on-site restaurant, but an oceanfront restaurant next door to the hotel serves seafood and American fare for lunch and dinner. Live bands perform there on some nights. A computer is set up off the lobby for guests to use, and there is a small outdoor pool that overlooks the ocean with lounge chairs and umbrellas for relaxing poolside. An adjacent grassy terrace provides space and tables for dining alfresco, and there are picnic tables on the grassy lawn. The hotel also puts on a weekly fireworks show. Wi-Fi is free, as is parking.
