Deadwood Gulch Resort

Deadwood Gulch Gaming Resort is a casual, family-friendly hotel with in a rustic, wilderness area. Nothing about the hotel is luxe, but neither are the prices, and the Gulch serves a wide range of guests. In the summertime, the hotel hosts families with kids and wilderness enthusiasts who enjoy the back patio, where they can picnic outside and listen to the running creek and watch deer and other Black Hills wildlife; the rooms serve as a home base for exploring the area sights and wildlife refuges. During the winter months, Deadwood Gulch is popular with bus tours and casino fans. Inside, this older hotel looks like a casino, with a few touches of Western decor. The lights are bright; the ceilings are low; the carpets are busy, and there is plenty of gold trim. Creekside Restaurant has a family feel suited to the comfort food and all-day breakfast it serves. The Fireside Bar and Lounge feels like a sports bar, with three flat-screen TVs. Deadwood Gulch's unique setting sets it apart from other casino hotels in the area, making it a better option for families traveling together.

Deadwood Gulch Gaming Resort is easily accessible off a main road, but has a nice, isolated feeling thanks to its unique location by a creek, in the woods. The center of historic Deadwood is around a five-minute drive away, where guests can visit the Adams Museum. Reaching the Broken Boot Gold Mine takes about the same amount of time, and the Days of '76 Museum, Rodeo Grounds, and Homestake Mine are a few minutes more. The entrance to the Mickelson Trail is within a short walk. Also nearby are a variety of wineries and breweries, wildlife parks, and a fish hatchery. Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse monument, and Custer State Park are all within an hour to 80 minutes' drive of the hotel.

Rooms at the Deadwood Gulch Gaming Resort are spacious, clean, and simply decorated. All guest rooms are non-smoking, but smoking was previously allowed in some areas, and the lingering smell of cigarettes may remain. All rooms have either creekside or parking lot access, some with cozy patios where creekside guests can relax and look for wildlife. The hotel adds thoughtful little touches to the guest rooms, including rubber duckies by the tubs, dedicated makeup towels, and welcoming teddy bears that can be purchased upon departure. Microwaves and mini-fridges are available upon request. 

Rooms have either two queen-size beds or one king-size, as well as freestanding armoires, flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, ironing facilities, and desks. The decor features earth tones accented with paisley prints or framed nature photography in some rooms, as well as wall-to-wall carpeting, small windows, and simple wooden bed frames. Bathrooms are modern and clean, with shower/tub combos and free toiletries. Suites have been renovated, and offer plenty of extra amenities that may include whirlpool tubs and separate tiled showers, breakfast bars, fireplaces, kitchenettes with nice tableware, and private decks.

Deadwood Gulch Gaming Resort has a 24-hour casino with slots and table games. There's a VIP lounge for high rollers, but it's not the kind of ultra-luxe lounge found in Las Vegas; it's a simple, sunlit space for relaxing away from the noise and blinking lights of the casino floor. All guests get a free hot breakfast. The Creekside Restaurant serves a home-style menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The second restaurant, the Fireside, offers a more fast food, sports bar-type menu of burgers, pizza, chili, wings, and more. Both restaurants have full-service bars. The hotel has a small fitness room with several cardio machines and a flat-screen TV, but no weight equipment. A gift shop/convenience store in the lobby is stocked with soda, candy, snacks, and souvenirs. Deadwood Gulch has 24-hour business center, as well as meeting and event facilities for 165, and offers a variety of wedding services (and a bridal suite). The grounds and patio are picturesque spots for weddings, and the hotel offers an alternative "shotgun wedding" service, for brides and grooms with simpler tastes. The on-site Creekside Bakery has freshly baked doughnuts, cupcakes, fudge, and loaves of bread -- and can provide wedding sweets.
