Bottom Line

The Seaview Holiday Park is a relatively small, family-friendly camp site and trailer park located a 10 minutes' drive from Weymouth on Dorset's south coast. Being perched on a hill, it has some lovely views of the surrounding countryside, though without direct access to the beach. There's a wide selection of accommodations and plenty of kid-friendly activities (including an indoor pool, outdoor pool, and playground), though some budget trailers are in need of updates, as are some of the facilities. Overall, for a inexpensive family vacation, this holiday park is certainly worth considering, though -- to avoid disappointment -- try to steer clear of the cheapest option.

Seaview Holiday Park – Haven

Scene

This typical English, family-friendly holiday park has an unpretentious, though outdated, ambience.

Seaview Holiday Park represents a typical example of the fine and long-running British tradition of unpretentious, family-friendly caravan/trailer and camp sites popular with vacationing families who want a fun-filled break without spending too much cash. The atmosphere is friendly and familiar, and the self-contained resort includes dining, entertainment, and leisure facilities as well as a range of accommodations from caravans and chalets to, for the more discerning camper, a "glamping" option -- while many bring their own tents or tourers. While the grounds are generally well-maintained with tidy lawns and plenty of greenery, the reception and other buildings, despite jaunty color-schemes, are starting to show their age in places with chipped paintwork and outdated decor -- though some might say this adds to its quintessentially English holiday-park charm.

Location

Perched on a hill a 10 minutes' drive from Weymouth and a mile from the bay's sandy beaches

The holiday camp is perched on a hill just off a busy main road that runs through Preston -- a coastal village and suburb of Weymouth in south Dorset. Its setting means pleasant views over the surrounding countryside and plenty of spots for nice walks along the coast, including to the nearest beach at Bowleaze Cove which is around a mile stroll away -- although Weymouth Bay's main beach is three miles from the site. Weymouth town center -- with its pretty harbor and ample dining options -- is about a 10-minute drive away, while the historic market town of Dorchester is 15 minutes away by car.

Rooms

A wide range of accommodation options are available -- though the lower-end ones can feel quite run-down.

Accommodations are comprised mostly of caravans/trailers which come in a range of categories from standard through to superior, deluxe, prestige, and retreat -- all with either two or three bedrooms sleeping up to six or eight, as well as kitchenettes, lounge areas, and bathrooms with showers. While some of the higher-end accommodations are pleasant and relatively newly-fitted, some standard level caravans look tired and are in need of renovations. No Internet is available.

There's also plenty of space for those wanting to pitch their tents or park their tourers; this space has a shower block, family rooms, and dishwashing area. Safari-themed tents are also available for upscale camping with wood-deck terrace and two bedrooms sleeping up to five in each.

Features

Heated indoor and outdoor pools -- which can get busy -- and a dedicated kids' club staff

Seaview Holiday Park features a wide selection of family-friendly fun including heated indoor and outdoor pools (including swimming lessons), a football academy, ten-pin bowling, and a kids' club that has dedicated staff providing a wide range of entertainment and activities. There is also a show-bar with evening entertainment, an amusement arcade, and some limited dining options including a cafe and pizza kiosk. While there is plenty to do, some of the facilities feel a little shabby in places and pools can get overcrowded during peak season. Seaview is also linked to its sister park Weymouth Bay via a pleasant nature path; guests of Seaview can access these facilities.
