Bottom Line

Part of the Citymax Hotels chain, Al Barsha is a three-pearl property with 376 rooms. Guest rooms are on the small side and have generic decor, but are clean and well-maintained, and come with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges. Guests in the lower floors may be disrupted by noise from the multiple bars and restaurants downstairs. There's a free shuttle to the beach, an outdoor pool, a fitness center, and multiple dining options. Overall, it's a good pick for anyone traveling on a budget who doesn't mind being away from the beach and the city center in exchange for lower rates.

Oyster Hotel Review

Citymax Hotel Al Barsha at the Mall

Scene

Contemporary lime green decor typical of a Citymax chain

From the outside, the hotel blends into its residential surroundings and if it weren't for the large Citymax signage on the hotel's bland neutral-colored facade, passersby could confuse it for another one of the area's apartment buildings. Inside, the lobby is clean and contemporary with large lampshades and lime green accents in the form of armchairs and large vases – a decor scheme typical to the Citymax chain. The ambience is busy and functional, and most guests limit their lounging to the pool area and the bars and restaurants.

Location

Down the street from Mall of the Emirates and the metro Red Line

The hotel is near a busy junction, in a neighborhood full of casual restaurants that's between the city center and the beach area. The popular Mall of the Emirates is just a five-minute walk away; from here, guests can take the Red Line of the Dubai Metro. The Marina and beach area of New Dubai is about 15-minutes away by car, and many of the city's businesses are three metro stops away at Business Bay station. The airport is a 20-minute drive away (if there's no traffic).

Unlike other hotels with distinctly different room offerings, Al Barsha only has one category: Deluxe. All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and work desks. Bathrooms have bath/tub combos, small hairdryers, and wall-mounted soap dispensers. Some rooms have views of nearby buildings, while those on the higher floors offer views of the Burj Al Arab Hotel. Past guests have complained of noise from the downstairs bar in some rooms.
