Bottom Line

The Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates Hotel is a high-end, chain hotel attached to and with direct access into the shopping center of the same name. Rooms are sleek and spacious, with impressive amenities and well-finished bathrooms. Dining options are slim, though al fresco terraces are a hit and the rooftop pool area provides some of the best panoramic vistas in Dubai. While not quite up to the standards of the nearby Kempinski, rates are a lot more affordable and the Sheraton still delivers a comfortable and upscale experience.

Sheraton Mall of the Emirates Hotel Dubai

Scene

Sleek and chic luxury chain vibe with direct access to one of Dubai's largest malls

When it opened in 2013, the Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates Hotel became the fourteenth Sheraton to launch in Dubai. It is also only one of two hotels that is connected directly to the Dubai Mall of the Emirates (the Kepinski is the other). The mall is one of the city's biggest, with 560 international retail brands, and it's home to the iconic Ski Dubai snow dome. The hotel towers over the northeast corner of mall, with rows of glistening blue-glass windows and a grand arched portico. While the entrance feels a little underwhelming, the lofty-ceilinged lobby is a pristine blend of twinkling hanging light features, light polished stone tiling, and chic contemporary furnishings, all finished with touch of local design elements. The vibe is upmarket and stylish, in the manner of a luxury chain-hotel, and a little impersonal. That said, it's ideal for well-heeled shopaholics and attracts business and leisure travelers alike.

Location

Situated on the corner of the Mall of Emirates, a 10-minute drive from area beaches

The hotel sits at one corner of the Mall of Emirates in the Al Barsha First district in the western part of Dubai. It's right beyond Sheikh Zayed Road, the main highway of Dubai. The location is a good base for access to the different parts of Dubai; it's under a 10-minute drive to the public beach and the Wild Wadi waterpark and 15 minutes from the tourist area of Jumeirah Beach Residences. Dubai International Airport is about half and hour away, while the Dubai Mall -- even bigger than the Mall of the Emirates -- is a 20-minute drive away. Note that the area is particularly prone to heavy traffic so sometimes the metro is a safer bet.

Rooms

Sleek, spacious rooms with luxury bathrooms and city views -- though some of nearby construction

The hotel's 481 spacious rooms are spread over more than 20 floors, and all are decorated in neutral earthy tones with smart, simple-designed furnishings, and  color-coordinated modern artworks. The chain's bespoke all-white Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Beds have padded leather headboards, while large windows provide plenty of natural light and views over the city (though some overlook construction of another mall). Even Standard Rooms include 40-inch flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi, while the 94 Suites come with 56-inch TVs and plush lounge areas. Modern, luxurious bathrooms are finished in marble with rainfall showers and/or shower/combos, and bathrobes and slippers are provided.

Features

24th-floor rooftop pools with stunning panoramic views and a snack lounge

The hotel's Sanabel restaurant serves a breakfast buffet daily (included in some room rates) as well as an a la carte Mediterranean menu for lunch and dinner, with an outdoor terrace for al fresco dining. The fifth-floor Vantage bar serves cocktails and has hookahs and also comes with terrace views, but the best panoramas are from the 24th-floor rooftop pool and lounge, where food is also served. There are two heated, saltwater pools, one for relaxing and the other large enough for swimming laps, as well as a few lounge chairs and stunning city views (though there is often noise from the busy Sheikh Zayed Road below). The spa, provides a quieter, peaceful retreat and has a steam room, a  sauna, massage treatments, and private hot tubs for couples.
