The Camden Deluxe Hotel is a budget-friendly, two-pearl property that was once a theater. It's in a prime location for Dublin's restaurants, bars, and clubs on Camden Street, and guests are within a five-minute walk of St. Stephen's Green and a 10-minute walk to the Grafton Street shops, with direct bus links to Dublin Airport outside the hotel doors. Its 40 rooms are clean and pleasant with feather duvets and striped feature walls. Bathrooms have fun black-and-white chessboard tiled floors, and shower/tub combos. All rooms include free Wi-Fi, but there's no on-site parking, room service, or satellite TV available.
Scene
In the former old Theatre De Luxe, which now plays host to tourists and students
Guests enter from the ever-busy Lower Camden Street into a modern and welcoming hotel lobby, with fern-green walls, varnished wooden floor boards, and a quirky wooden cutout reception desk that looks like a bar counter. A mix of students and tourists make up the clientele, but aside from the lobby, there aren't any gathering spaces. And there's little in the Camden Deluxe's decor, other than its facade, to suggest this historically listed building was once the old Theatre De Luxe, where, the hotel is proud to say, Alan Parker's "The Commitments" played.
Location
On Camden Street, the nightlife hub of Dublin
Located on busy Lower Camden Street, the Camden Deluxe Hotel is in the center of Dublin's nightlife scene, surrounded by bars and next to the ever-popular Palace Nightclub, once the Theatre De Luxe's auditorium. Live music can be heard within a one-minute walk of the hotel in Whelan's, a famous 1950s-style venue. Restaurants and cafes buzz with activity throughout the day and into the early hours of the morning. While Camden Street is a prime location for guests seeking a big night out on the town, it's not so great for light sleepers. Airport links are conveniently located outside the hotel's doors, with bus 16 going directly to Dublin Airport in about 41 minutes. The National Wax Museum is within a five-minute walk of St. Stephen's Green, a public park with an original Victorian layout, and a 10-minute walk to Grafton Street shops.
Rooms
Basic budget rooms that cater to both short- and long-term stays
The 40 rooms -- Standard Double, Twin, and Quadruple Rooms -- include free Wi-Fi, coffee- and tea-making facilities, hairdryers, and tube-style TVs. Rooms are clean and decor is colorful, with pinstripe painted feature walls, open wardrobe units to store luggage, compact study desks, and feather duvets. Bathrooms have fun chessboard tiled floors, wooden panel baths, and shower/tub combos with body wash available in wall-mounted dispensers. Long-term stays, which many students take advantage of, are available at discounted rates paid in advance, and in-room refrigerators and microwaves are provided, perhaps to compensate for the lack of a restaurant.
Features
A convenient location for nightlife, 24-hour reception, and free in-room Wi-Fi
The standout features here are low rates and a central location -- there is no bar, restaurant, business or fitness facilities, and no common areas aside from the lobby, where cold drinks are available. The reception desk is staffed 24 hours a day, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, but there is no on-site parking or breakfast.
