Bottom Line

Leeson Bridge House is a three-pearl Georgian guest house located on the banks of the Grand Canal, in a lovely residential area of the city that's within walking distance of St. Stephen’s Green. Its 20 rooms are traditionally styled and perhaps a bit old-fashioned, but some have private saunas and separate hot tubs. Studio Apartments with full kitchens (some have gas marble fireplaces and balconies) are also available. All rooms come with wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and jetted tubs. A full Irish or continental breakfast is included in the room rate, and is served daily. Travelers could also compare rates and amenities with the three-pearl Camden Court Hotel, which includes a heated lap pool.

Leeson Bridge Guesthouse

Scene

A quiet Georgian-period hotel with a charismatic on-site dining room

This Georgian hotel makes quite the first impression: an eye-catching fire-engine red door flanked with white columns opens to a colorful stained glass interior door that leads into the well-maintained property. Reception is little more than a front desk and a rack of brochures, but marble details and the hotel's signature logo etched into floor tiles give it grandeur. Breakfast is served in a quaint on-site dining room with white-linen tablecloths, lace-curtain window dressings, wood-framed artwork, and wood molding. Guests can also use the hotel's basic Butler Kitchen facilities, or relax in an outdoor area with seating and landscaped gardens. Clientele ranges from couples to families to solo and business travelers.

Location

Located outside the city center, within a five-minute walk of the weekly Irish Village Market

Located in a mainly residential area on the fringe of Dublin's city center, the Leeson Bridge House is set within picturesque surroundings, with bike paths that run along the banks of the Grand Canal. (Bikes can be rented within a minute's walk of the hotel.) Nearby attractions include a weekly Irish Village Market on Mespil Road, where guests can sample fresh local and international cuisine, and Dartmouth Square, an Edwardian period park, which hosts regular outdoor yoga classes -- both are within a five-minute walk of the hotel. Excellent transport links are nearby, with air coach bus service to Dublin Airport stopping outside the hotel's door, and green and red line light railway connections available at Charlemont stop, a five-minute walk from the hotel. Grafton street shopping, known for its high-end retailers and street performers, is about a 15-minute walk away.

Rooms

Traditionally styled, slightly old-fashioned rooms; some with saunas and hot tubs

The traditionally styled, slightly dowdy rooms preserve little of the hotel's original Georgian architecture, save for the marble fireplaces -- some of which function -- in a few of the Classic Rooms and Studio Apartments, which also have full kitchens. Other nice touches include stained-glass window panes on a couple bathroom doors. Some of the Studio Apartments also have balconies. Executive Suites come with private saunas and hot tubs, and some Luxury Rooms also offer hot tubs and Canal Bank views. Beige-tiled bathrooms include additional taps with fresh drinking water and shower/tub combos with jetted tubs. All rooms come with free Wi-Fi, wall-mounted irons and ironing boards, hairdryers, flat-screen TVs, coffee-and tea-making facilities, and double glazed windows that help drown out the street noise. Storage space in both the rooms and bathrooms is minimal.
