Bottom Line

The five-room
Tipperary House Dublin is a budget bed-and-breakfast with a homey atmosphere
that’s located outside the bustle of the city center near Phoenix Park, but it's well serviced by public transportation. Private rooms have flat-screen TVs and
tea/coffee facilities -- some with private bathrooms -- while dorms have bunk beds and lockers. The rooms and
bathrooms are small, however, with basic decor, and there's no air-conditioning nor elevator. A simple breakfast
is included in the room rate, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout. For just
a bit more, the Leeson Bridge House is a good alternative that provides a full
Irish breakfast, free on-site parking, and the option of hot tubs or saunas in
the rooms.

Scene

Homey bed-and-breakfast with some hostel-like dorms

Tipperary House Dublin
occupies a 220-year-old building with Irish green
trim and doors, its name painted across the white facade. The current owners have kept it within the family for
over 45 years. A combination of a bed-and-breakfast and shared
hostel rooms, the Tipperary House is a fun jumble of decorations, homey
prints, and overstuffed furniture. Refurbished in 2013, it has wooden floors
and hallways, a set of carpeted stairs (but no elevator), and a homey breakfast
room that’s a clutter of hanging postcards, a large armchair, and wooden tables
with gray-and-white polka dot tablecloths. A single gray fireplace and an
antique wooden hutch give a hint as to the building's age. The Tipperary House
Dublin draws a mix of budget travelers, including backpackers as well as families.

Location

Far from the bustle of the city center, but well serviced by public transportation

Tipperary House Dublin is just north of the River Liffey on
the western edge of Dublin’s city center. This property has an ideal location
for those wanting to be away from the bustle, but still close enough to access it by
public transportation or a long stroll. It’s a five-minute walk to
Dublin’s Heuston Station and three minutes to the tram line stop that runs in
front of the hotel, giving easy access to the city center and such sites
like Temple Bar and Trinity College (about 15 minutes via public transportation, or around a 25-minute
walk). It’s a 13-minute walk to the Old Jameson Distillery and 14 minutes on foot to the Guinness Storehouse. The lovely Phoenix Park is just a six-minute walk away, where guests can also find the Dublin Zoo, about a 15-minute walk away. There are some restaurants and shops on surrounding streets. Dublin
Airport is about a 20- to 40-minute drive, depending on traffic, or 50 minutes via public transportation.

Rooms

Small, homey rooms have flat-screen TVs, while dorms have storage lockers and bunk beds

This property offers
private rooms with en-suite bathrooms as well as hostel-like dorm rooms with bunk beds.
Some rooms have shared bathrooms. Soft colors and pleasant, vintage-like decor includes lilac walls and polka dot, floral, or plaid bedspreads. Rooms are small but well-maintained, and include tea- and coffee-making facilities and free Wi-Fi. Private rooms have flat-screen TVs, while shared
dorm rooms have lockers for guests to store belongings. However, rooms aren’t
air-conditioned. Though the hotel advertises triple glazed rooms, try to choose
a room in the back of the building for a quieter stay. En-suite bathrooms are tiny with small showers, while rooms that share
bathrooms have in-room sinks. There’s not much in the way of toiletries besides
wall dispensers of hand soap. Some bathrooms look a bit worn around the edges and
corners.

Features

Free basic breakfast, baggage storage, and free Wi-Fi

Tipperary House Dublin is
a small property with few on-site features. A basic breakfast of juice, coffee,
yogurt, cereals, and breads is served in a small dining room and is usually
included in room rates. The hotel provides a baggage storage
service to those utilizing Heuston Station for a small fee. Guests can also receive a free pint of beer at Nancy Hands Bar and Restaurant, which is
a three-minute walk away. Free Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the
property. There’s no on-site parking available, but there's street parking for
a fee on surrounding streets.
