The Park Hotel

The Park Hotel and Leisure Center is a traditional, family-run hotel situated on three acres of grounds with landscaped gardens that overlook the Colligan River. The two-story, cream-colored building is flanked by a parking lot. The elegant lobby features impressive high ceilings and tall windows that illuminate a sleek, black front desk and staircase spiraling up behind it. Walls are covered in a rich red wallpaper adorned with golden damask patterns. The space has lots of elegant corners  with an array of seating -- white couches, tan armchairs, and striped sofas cluster around coffee tables, partitioned by dark wooden furniture and shelving that creates cozy seating nooks.

The hotel’s Garden Room Restaurant is also filled with wooden furnishings and fixtures, decked out in various shades of brown. A blue-and-gray hued geometric carpet complements large block-shaped lighting fixtures. The Meladon Bar is a cozy, atmospheric space with an equestrian theme, full of wooden floors, tables, and leather-backed chairs, plus a beautiful fireplace with gorgeous decorative wood carving set against a wall covered with huge boat photographs.

The hotel attracts a mix of leisure and business travelers, and with its large leisure complex that includes a kids’ pool, is suited to families. It's also a popular function and event space, and local residents often use it for celebrations.

The hotel is located on the outskirts of the seaside town of Dungarvan, on the banks of the Colligan River. Situated on five acres of landscaped grounds, the setting is quiet and calm, and within walking distance of Dungarvan, which has several restaurants, bars, and shops. Hikers and nature lovers are drawn to the nearby Corneragh Mountains and Mahon Falls, which are within a 35-minute drive. The Dungarvan Golf Club is nearby, about a nine-minute drive from the hotel. Other area attractions include the heritage town of Lismore (25-minute drive) and the picturesque town of Ardmore (20-minute drive). The nearest bus stop is a five-minute walk from the hotel.

Rooms are pleasant and clean, with traditional decor that includes dark wooden furniture and mostly neutral hues that complement crisp white bedding. Some rooms have high ceilings and tall windows, and are bedecked in brown and beige hues; others add rich shades of crimson in the form of accent pillows, velvet bedspreads, and vibrant art. All rooms have work desks, flat-screen TVs,  tea- and coffee-making facilities, plus free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are small and show some signs of wear and tear, and could use an upgrade, especially the old showerheads in the shower/tub combos. Family Rooms can accommodate up to two adults and two children. Bridal Suites have extra seating, brass chandeliers, and subtle patterned wallpaper.

The hotel has an expansive leisure club, which includes a 66-foot swimming pool, as well as a kids’ pool, sauna, steam room, and whirlpool. There’s also a fully equipped fitness center, which overlooks the pool.

Dining options include the elegant Garden Room, which offers a varied menu that relies on local and seasonal ingredients, as well as the lovely wood-furnished Meladon Bar, which serves home cooked bar food, and regularly features live traditional music.

There are several meeting rooms, and the event space has banquet facilities that can accommodate up to 300 people, or conferences for up to 500. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and parking is also free.
