Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf

Opened in late 2010, the Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf is situated in a dark, ultra-modern, upside-down L-shaped building with 19 stories and a fully windowed facade. Inside, a dark tile floor, black walls, and white ceilings create a sleek backdrop for classic modern furniture like leather couches with soft pillows and tree-stump-shaped coffee tables. The carpets and rugs in the common areas are real standouts, with exquisite organic patterns. The lobby lounge, which is situated in a cordoned-off room with cutout walls, features its own fireplace. Here, an elegant gray carpet with a giant pink floral pattern acts as a foil to dark walls and rich brown leather and velvety chairs. One of the hotel’s best features is its ultra-chic and modern Pebble’s Bar & Lounge. Aptly named, it's located in its own pebble-like structure with a silver facade and a white-and-silver interior -- the bar feels like a stylish space-age ice cave, save for its floor-to-ceiling windows and river views. Situated slightly beyond the city center in a modern industrial area, the hotel exudes a professional vibe that’s geared toward business travelers, though plenty of tourists stay here too.

Situated on the tip of a small peninsula right on the Rhine, the Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf is located in a modern industrial park in Düsseldorf Harbor (Media Harbor), slightly outside of the city center. The hotel offers fantastic views of the harbor, the Rhine Tower, and Old Town. The location is especially convenient for business travelers, but there are several transportation links for tourists wanting to see the sights. A pleasant 30-minute walk via a pedestrian bridge along the river leads to the heart of Old Town (it would be about a 10-minute drive), where there are scores of restaurants, bars, and shops. There are also a handful of restaurants in a trendy area right across the pedestrian bridge, about a five-minute walk from the hotel. The Rhine Tower is a 12-minute walk. The hotel also provides free shuttle service to the downtown area several times a day.

The 303 guest rooms and suites range in style and size, but all have contemporary furniture, modern amenities, and streamlined style in calming, natural tones. King Rooms, which are the standard size, have wall-to-wall carpeting, sage-green walls, and velvety brown bedcovers. A piece of contemporary art hangs on the walls, while an elegant chaise lounge and silver ottoman sit in one corner, and a small desk and leather chair occupy the other. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer spectacular views in some of the rooms, especially the harbor-facing rooms on high floors. While some guests complain that standard rooms feel small for the price, bathrooms are undeniably spacious. They’re fully tiled in gray with black accents, and include separate toilet areas, vanities, bathtubs, and spacious walk-in showers with glass doors and rainfall showerheads. The glass walls that show off the shower area in the bedroom bother some guests. Bathrooms come with Portico toiletries, hairdryers, scales, magnifying mirrors, robes, and ironing equipment.

All rooms are air-conditioned and include laptop safes, free Wi-Fi, and satellite TVs with Sky-TV channels, video-on-demand service, and MP3 connections. Rooms also include free fresh fruit and mineral water along with fully stocked minibars and coffee- and tea- making facilities. Suites and larger rooms may have extras such as Nespresso machines, chic living room areas, or whirlpools. 

The hotel has four trendy on-site restaurants and bars. The Dox Restaurant serves regional food created from local products and has its own sushi bar, while The Dox Bar and Lounge offers great views of the harbor. The Cafe D is a self-service bistro opened to the public. Pebble’s Bar & Lounge is the real standout, though, and is situated in front of the hotel in its own silver “pebble-shaped” structure. Breakfast is available, but it's not included in the room rate.

The hotel’s chic, modern spa offers an extensive range of services, including massages, wraps, and other treatments, as well as manicures, pedicures, waxing, and eyebrow shaping. The spa also includes a whirlpool, steam room, and sauna. The fitness area is open 24-hours and is located in an attractive room with lots of natural light, wood floors, and a mirrored wall. Modern cardio and weight machines have individual screens with Internet access and iPod connections. The exercise room also has balance balls, yoga mats, and free weights, and other workout accessories, but there's no pool.

Several chic on-site event rooms, such as river-facing ballrooms and lounges, are available to rent for meetings or weddings. There's also a Smoker’s Lounge and an exclusive Club Lounge. The business center is open 24 hours a day, and includes a computer, color printing, and office supplies, along with binding, shipping, and translation services. A technology concierge can assist with equipment. Dogs are allowed for an extra nightly fee, and four-legged friends get water bowls, dog bowls and food, dog beds, and dog biscuits.

Standard Internet is free throughout the hotel, but premium Internet costs extra. The hotel also offers laundry and dry cleaning services, airport transfers services, a free shuttle to the town center, and underground valet parking (for a fee), plus a foreign currency exchange, and 24-hour room service, reception, and concierge service.
