Bottom Line

The 48-room Alpine Trail Ridge Inn is a quiet motel off highway 36 in Estes Park, Colorado. A simple facility with cozy and surprisingly chic room decor and an outdoor swimming pool, the motel is surrounded by beautiful mountain views and has a garden area. The Rocky Mountain National Park is just a few minutes away, making this family-owned hotel great for tourists looking to explore the park. No meals are included, but there are mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and microwaves in all the rooms, plus an adjacent restaurant. Wi-Fi is free and very consistent. The inn used to be open during summertime only, but now is open year round. Alpine Trail doesn't allow pets, but the nearby Murphy's Resort Estes Park accepts them on request.

Alpine Trail Ridge Inn

Scene

Little communal space or decoration, but beautiful views

The Alpine Trail Ridge Inn consists of simple, low-lying buildings with white siding and small wood balconies. A very small lobby has a computer/printer station and free fruit, coffee, and tea for guests, but no room for reading or lounging. There is more space to move around and relax where it matters here -- outside. The property's greatest draw is its proximity to the Rocky Mountain National Park, and the motel is nestled in the mountain range, offering beautiful views throughout the property. The patio is a great starting point for enjoying the views; it is decked out with heat lamps, a barbecue grill, a communal table, and chairs. A few steps lead up to a hot tub and small heated pool.

Rooms

Basic and chain-like, but clean and bright

Rooms at the Alpine Trail Ridge Inn are sizable and surprisingly fresh for a motel-style property. Renovations throughout 2016 replaced blue carpet, patterned polyester bedding, and framed flowery prints with hardwood floors or plush cocoa-colored carpeting, crisp white bedding (with Western touches, such as cowhide throws and bear outline pillows) and taupe walls with deer-head-silhouette palettes. All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, air-conditioning, and high-speed Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are plain white and can be on the small side (some have external sinks), but are clean and come with bath products for use in the shower/tub combos.

Some rooms, like Balcony King Rooms, have private furnished balconies with lovely mountain views. Standard King Rooms come with leather chairs and small dining tables. In the Kitchen King Suites, there are leather couches, ottomans, and chairs, as well as full kitchens with full-size refrigerators, ovens, toasters, sinks, and dining tables.

Features

Outdoor patio with grill, a heated pool, and a hot tub

The mountain views are the real treasures of this simple property, as well as its proximity to the Rocky Mountain National Park. There is a restaurant on-site, but it is functionally separate from the motel; no meals are covered with the stay. The Alpine Trail Ridge Inn pool and hot tub is fairly small and tucked away off the parking lot, but like the motel itself, offers some nice views. On either side of the pool, there are a garden area with a fountain and an outdoor patio with a barbecue grill, tables, and chairs. Heat lamps provide warmth in cold weather. A computer and printer are available for guests to use in the lobby, and the hotel has free Wi-Fi in the rooms.
