Bottom Line

Capricorn Fiji Hotel is a budget-friendly airport hotel with 67 simple rooms and a few on-site amenities. It’s not a place you’d want to spend your entire vacation, but is suitable for transit travelers who are only looking for a place to sleep. Rooms are clean — if somewhat bland — but some are subject to lots of noise at night, since the hotel is located next to a nightclub. There's an interior courtyard with a mid-size pool, as well as an on-site restaurant, but the food isn’t anything to write home about. There’s a free airport shuttle, but don’t count on the hotel’s pre-paid Wi-Fi cards to work. A nicer option is the Novotel Nadi, which is directly across from the airport, but it’s pricier.

Capricorn Fiji Hotel

Scene

A busy airport hotel with tons of local and international guests

Like most of the airport hotels near Nadi International Airport, the atmosphere around Capricorn Fiji Hotel is always bustling. Guests are constantly checking in and out, porters are always carting luggage across the lobby, and shuttle drivers continuously make trips to the airport. We’re not saying the place is chaotic, just buzzing with energy. The majority of guests are transit passengers — people only staying in Nadi for a night or two before they head elsewhere in Fiji. There are plenty of international families, couples, and solo travelers, as well as a few local Fijians doing business in Nadi.

The Capricorn lobby is a bright white space with arched ceilings and hodgepodge decor. An elaborate chandelier hangs above the front desk, but a cluster of well-worn furniture sits in the corner. There’s a mosaic tile design on the floor, and some Fijian murals on the walls, but nothing about the room’s decor seems cohesive.

Location

On Queens Road, about a 10-minute drive from Nadi International Airport

Capricorn Fiji is located on Queens Road, a bustling thoroughfare about 10 minutes from Nadi International Airport. The hotel is within walking distance of numerous restaurants, local shops, and a major supermarket. It’s also located next to a nightclub, which can cause noise issues in some rooms. Wailoaloa Beach, a local beach that’s popular with international backpackers, is about a five-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Simple and dated, but clean and adequate for a night or two

Rooms at Capricorn Fiji aren’t stunning, but they’re clean and equipped with decent amenities. White walls, white tile floors, and wood furniture set the scene in these blandly decorated rooms, but tapa-print pillows add a touch of local flavor. Most rooms have one king-size bed and one twin-size bed, but the hotel also has a few apartment-style rooms with multiple bedrooms, kitchenettes, and living rooms. All rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, electric kettles, and electronic safes. However, the hotel doesn’t have cable, so the nice TVs seem like a waste. Bathrooms are on the small side, with tight shower stalls and tiny vanities. Water pressure and temperature can also be iffy. Guests should be aware that Capricorn Fiji is located next to a nightclub, so some rooms receive lots of noise at night.

Features

Nice pool and a free breakfast buffet, but spotty paid Wi-Fi and a lackluster restaurant

The best feature at Capricorn Fiji is the hotel’s outdoor courtyard and mid-size pool. The freeform pool is surrounded by shady palms, a few lounge chairs, and umbrella-covered table and chair sets. Next to the pool is the hotel’s on-site bar and restaurant. It’s a casual open-air space where guests and locals gather to watch rugby games. The restaurant serves a free continental breakfast buffet each morning, but we wouldn’t recommend dining here otherwise. The vegetable curry and dhal we ordered at dinnertime were little more than bowls of oil.

Capricorn Fiji has a free airport shuttle that runs to and from the airport every 30 minutes. The hotel also sells pre-paid Wi-Fi cards, but they don’t always work, and staff members aren’t eager to reimburse guests if the internet connection is faulty.
