Bottom Line

Located in the quiet residential neighborhood of Porta al Prato outside Florence's city center, AC Hotel Firenze by Marriott is an upscale design-conscious modern hotel. With 3,025 square feet of event space and office and translation services available, it caters to business travelers. The 118 rooms, spread over five floors, are decorated in a chic, modern style, but they're on the small side. There's an on-site restaurant and bar but no pool or spa. While free Wi-Fi is available in the lobby, only Marriott Rewards members and guests in higher-category rooms get free in-room Wi-Fi. Travelers looking for a hotel with more historic character at a similar price might want to consider the Grand Hotel Cavour, which is within easy walking distance of the Duomo and has free Wi-Fi throughout, a spa, and Turkish bath, or the centrally located Hotel Pierre Florence, housed in a 13th-century building, with period architectural details.

AC Hotel Firenze

Scene

Business hotel with starkly stylish contemporary decor

The imposing and ultra modern facade of the AC Hotel Firenze by Marriott seems a bit out of place on the corner of a wide residential street in a Florence suburb. The huge lobby, with its U-shaped light well and large glass windows, is impressive and bright, despite its dark-gray tile floors and long black counters. Contemporary-style armchairs and sofas are arranged around tables to create a comfortable sitting area, with tall cylinder-shaped paper lamps adding interesting lighting accents. Tasteful abstract artworks decorate the stark-white walls of the corridors. The rooftop terrace offers views of the Florence skyline and the Tuscan hills just beyond. Though catering to business travelers, the hotel also attracts a large number of leisure travelers looking to stay outside the high-priced historic city center. And the property is a frequent overnight stop for tour groups.
