Bottom Line

The Sheraton Suites is a mid-sized, all-suite hotel that's across a busy street from Smathers Beach. Suites are spacious with a cozy living area separate from the bedroom, and bathrooms have big marble showers. The hotel is well maintained and amenities are numerous, including a bright, well-equipped gym, big pool with tiki bar, and business center. Downtown Key West and Duval Street are a six-minute drive away -- a hotel shuttle offers free transportation until 11 p.m. -- making this hotel a better fit for families seeking sand and sun than people looking for nearby nightlife.

Sheraton Suites Key West

Location

Far from Duval street, close to the airport

Sheraton Suites Key West is located away from the action of downtown Key West, across the street from a public beach. This hotel is just two minutes from the airport, but a six-minute drive to Duval Street and the rest of downtown Key West. The hotel runs shuttles, but outside of service hours, a car is needed and parking downtown can be a pain.

Key West is the westernmost of the Florida Keys, and offers a thriving nightlife scene, as well as great diving, shops, restaurants, and decent beaches -- all within a few blocks. It can feel like a bit of a tourist trap with its tacky bars, hordes of cruise ship passengers, and T-shirt shops, but it’s one of the few Keys that has historic sites to visit. On the literary side, Ernest Hemingway and Tennessee Williams spent a big part of their lives here, and their homes have now been turned into museums.

  • 2-minute drive to Key West International Airport
  • 65-minute drive to The Florida Keys Marathon Airport
  • 4-minute drive to Higgs Beach, a favorite among the gay community
  • 5-minute drive to the Key Plaza Shopping Center
  • 6-minute drive to the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory
  • 6-minute drive to the art galleries, shops, restaurants, and nightlife along Duval Street
  • 6-minute drive to the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum
  • 7-minute drive to the famous Sloppy Joe’s Bar, supposedly Hemingway’s favorite
  • 8-minute drive to the Key West Museum of Art and History
  • 8-minute drive to the Key West Shipwreck Museum
  • 8-minute drive to the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center, with exhibits about local fauna and flora
  • 9-minute drive to Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park and Beach
  • 9-minute drive to Mallory Square, where the famous Sunset Celebration takes place
