Bottom Line

Key West is a place that's steeped in history, and the Banyan Resort is no exception: its nine buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. The 38 suites are clean and bright, but quality varies drastically. Most have dated, uninspired decor, with tube TVs, floral print sofas, and tacky lighting. But each suite has patios, balconies, and kitchens; the grounds are lush; and there are two shady (if small) outdoor pools. The hotel's biggest draw is its location just steps some of Key West's premier attractions, such as happening Duval Street and Mallory Square.

The Banyan Resort

Location

Located steps away from Duval Street, a bustling strip of shops, restaurants, bars and nightlife

The Banyan resort is located steps away from Duval Street, the main artery of Old Town Key West that's lined with restaurants, bars, and tacky souvenir shops boasting bright, ridiculous T-shirts.

The town's popularity has Key West fans worried, as it's a hot spot for real estate buyers. Beaches are small, but nice, and the area is rather kitschy, but Key West has a certain lovable funk that keeps the tourists coming. Only one road leads into the city, which makes getting around by car difficult, but has sheltered Key West from much corporate development. Most visitors flock to this city for some genuine R&R as well as bottomless bottles of booze.

  • 9-minute drive from Key West International Airport
  • 2-minute walk to Duval Street
  • 2-minute walk to the Key West Heritage House Museum and Robert Frost Cottage
  • 4-minute walk to Mallory Square
  • 4-minute walk to the Key West Shipwreck Museum
  • 4-minute drive to For Zachary Taylor Historic State Park
  • 5-minute drive or 19-minute walk to South Beach
