Bottom Line

For families or quieter groups looking for a beach fix, the mid-range Beach House Condominiums will deliver just that -- though guests looking for more stimulating activities might find themselves a bit bored. With 650 feet of white-sand beachfront, two tennis courts, and an ocean-view pool, the property is built for guests to relax. The 112 rooms vary in decor and amenities, but all are comfortable and have kitchens and living areas. The property is self-catering and there's no on-site restaurant, but there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance and a supermarket a few minutes' drive away. For a three-pearl beachfront hotel that's also self-catering and kid-friendly, the TOPS'L Beach and Raquet Resort has a bit more going on (two restaurants, yoga classes, and a tiki bar to start).

The Beach House Condominiums

Scene

Typical Floridian beachside condos cater toward quieter groups

Looking every bit the traditional Floridian condo from the outside -- think pale-yellow stucco units towering over the sands -- The Beach House Condominiums knows that its main advantage is its prime location right on the beach, and it's built for relaxing accordingly. The lobby and rooms reflect the beach that's just outside the door, and the pool, tennis courts, and shuffleboard are the only activities offered on site. Catering toward families and groups, The Beach House isn't the place for the party-hearty crowd, but it's good value for those looking for a relaxing, affordable getaway.

Location

Located as close to the water as a property can get

Occupying 650 feet of Miramar Beach, it would be harder to get closer to the ocean than in these condos, which are practically right on the water. They're located in a neighborhood of similar properties, with a scooter rental and beach rental shop each a four-minute-or-less walk away, and a Winn-Dixie for stocking up in-unit kitchens is 10 minutes away by foot (three minutes by car). A beachside bar and grill is seven minutes by foot, and the Silver Sands Premium Outlets is 15 minutes by foot (or a short scooter ride). Most dining options are located along a stretch of Highway 98, and some can be accessed within a 15-minute walk.

If not driving, guests should look to fly into a regional airport, as larger ones such as Orlando and Tampa are about six hours away by car. Conversely, Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport is about 40 minutes away from the property. On-site parking is free.

Rooms

Beachy, traditional elements decorate generic condos

Reflecting the tones of surf and sand outside the doors, the individually owned and decorated condos at the Beach House are undoubtedly traditional -- think white headboards, pastel bedskirts, and country-contemporary furniture. Bathrooms are adequate, with plenty of storage and shallow shower/tub combos. Although it's definitely not for design junkies, families, couples and groups will find a suitable arrangement in the one-, two-, and three-bedroom options. All have living areas with sofa beds and TVs, as well as well-stocked kitchens with ovens. Additionally, every unit has a balcony or terrace with gorgeous ocean views.

However, some condos are in need of more maintenance and upkeep than others, and the amenities vary: mattresses vary in age (and comfort); some units have more cookware than others; and some have on-site laundry while other units would need to use the communal laundry room on the property. Guests should confirm what's in their choice of unit before booking.

Features

650 feet of white-sand beach is the true gem

The real highlight of the property is undoubtedly the beach: The hotel is set along 650 feet of white sand. Guests can break from the sun in a beautiful wooden gazebo or utilize the chair and umbrella service for laying out on the sand. There are also grills available for a beachside barbecue. Overall, the beach is reasonably quiet and private. The property's outdoor pool overlooks the beach, and it's surrounded by plenty of sun loungers (though only a handful of umbrellas). A kiddy pool is also available here. Also outside are two well-maintained, full-size tennis courts and a shuffleboard court.

Fitness fanatics might want to take to the beach outdoors for their exercise, as the tiny gym has just one treadmill, a bench with free weights, and two other cardio machines. Kids and teens might enjoy hanging out in the game room, where it's pay-to-play but there's a reasonably broad selection of arcade-style video games. Free Wi-Fi is located throughout the property. A laundry room is on-site for those that don't have in-unit washer/dryers.
