Cabbage Key Inn

The Cabbage Key Inn is situated on a 100-acre island with amazing views and landscape. Built in the 1930s, this family-run property exudes charm, from its weathered exterior wood to the antique light fixtures, and is imbued with a quiet, tranquil atmosphere. Lush grounds include nature trails meandering through greenery and wildlife and guests can climb the water tower for gorgeous water views. The property consists of the main house, which houses the restaurant and inn rooms, as well as several cottages on the grounds. The open-air restaurant is a cozy, atmospheric space furnished with green leather chairs, wood tables, vintage fishing gear adorning the walls, and beautiful  panoramic views of the Pine Island Sound. The bar area has fireplaces, original hardwood floors, and lovely Cypress walls covered in thousands of dollar bills left by visitors. A flat-screen TV and a huge fish also hang from the walls and there are rustic wood chairs and tables out on the screened-in porch area. 

The Cabbage Key Inn is located on the remote and peaceful Cabbage Key Island, a carless retreat without any paved roads and only accessible by boat. Kayak and boat rentals are available less than a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Boca Grande is a five-mile boat ride while Sanibel Island and Captiva Island are eight miles away. To reach Southwest Florida International Airport, guests can take a boat 20 miles to Fort Myers and then drive 30-minutes to the airport.

All rooms and cottages are individually decorated with a contemporary yet antique tropical or nautical style. Inn Rooms are cozy with black-and-white photos on the walls, original hardwood floors, and blue and white sheets on the beds. Magnificent wood covers the ceilings and some rooms have fireplaces. All rooms are filled with natural light and have air-conditioning, while some offer fantastic water views. Quaint private bathrooms have black-and-white tiled floors paired with white subway tiling in the shower/tubs, as well as antique-style white pedestal sinks and Lord & Mayfair toiletries. Rooms, however, do not have TVs, coffeemakers, kitchen appliances, or phones.

Cottages are homey and spacious, with high ceilings and lots of natural light as well as separate living rooms with striped or floral couches and wood dining tables and chairs. Flat-screen TVs sit on top of dark wood furniture in living rooms and bedrooms, while full-size refrigerators, coffeemakers, stoves, dishwashers, and microwaves reside in modern, fully-equipped kitchens (some with stainless steel appliances). Bedrooms are doused in soft colors with wicker furniture and nautical artwork and details like rope or seashell lamps. Private, stylish bathrooms have shower/tub combos and Lord & Mayfair toiletries. Some Cottages have private docks and screened-in porches with seating and amazing water views. There are no phones available and some Cottages must use an outdoor staircase to travel between levels.

The extensive grounds include many nature trails and the hotel can also arrange fishing and boating excursions. The Cabbage Key Inn Restaurant and Bar serves tasty American classics including seafood, hamburgers, steaks, eggs, fruit, and pancakes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and attracts locals and boaters from nearby ports. The bar covered in dollar bills is a highlight, with thousands of bills taped to the walls by visitors, which are donated to charity annually. Free Wi-Fi is only available at the restaurant. Clothing and sundries are available at the Dockmaster Gift Shop and there is an on-site marina, but there are dockage fees.
