Bottom Line

Clean, generically modern, and efficient: whether staying for business or pleasure, you know what you're going to get when you check into an NH Collection property, and the three-and-a-half-pearl one in Frankfurt City is no exception. The 256 rooms are adequately sized, airy, and stylish, plus outfitted with flat-screen TVs, slippers, and espresso machines. Amenities are standard for a hotel of this caliber: there are a small gym, meeting rooms catering to the frequent business travelers, and restaurant serving buffet breakfasts and international fare for lunch and dinner. Given its central location in Frankfurt, it's a great pick, but if travelers are looking for something a little more trendy and boutique, they'd do well to check out the 25hours near the city's central train station.

Oyster Hotel Review

NH Collection Frankfurt City

Scene

Hotel decor is cool but on the corporate side

Popular with those in Frankfurt for shopping and exploring the old town, as well as with business travelers, NH Collection Frankfurt City draws your typical crowd of NH guests: a mix of couples on vacation and people for work. Like most NH Collection hotels, the Frankfurt location caters to both, with generic but stylish decor filling its open-plan common areas. In this case, swathes of white walls are interrupted by pops of bright red and gold on furniture. There are a few intimate seating areas near the lobby bar, but the decor is a little too corporate to make you want to stay awhile.

Location

Centrally set within walking distance of many attractions

Located on a small street off of a main road, the property is centrally located in Frankfurt. It's a five-minute walk from the city's main shopping street and many of its museums: the Museum for Modern Art is an eight-minute walk away, and the city's kids' museum is about a 12-minute walk from the hotel. Frankfurt Zoo is a 15-minute walk from the hotel. For getting around to other parts of the city, the Konstablerwache S-Bahn and U-Bahn station is a four-minute walk away. Frankfurt airport is about 27 minutes by public transit, or roughly 20 by taxi.

Rooms

Light and stylish, if generic, rooms

The hotel's 256 rooms are relatively large, especially for Europe, and are done a bit generically, though still stylishly. Renovated in 2015, they're calming and light, with striped walls in tones of white and ivory, warm wood floors, and all-white bed linens. Bright-red tufted armchairs, chrome lamps, and large silver-framed floor mirrors add chic touches. Superior Rooms and Suites have skyline views. Bathrooms come with a full-size hairdryer, hotel-brand (though excellent) toiletries, and walk-in rainfall shower. Upgraded units add bathrobes and a sitting area with sofa bed. Each room comes with a Nespresso machine and capsules, and kettle alongside tea, both of which are restocked for free. Also standard are a minibar, electronic safe, slippers, and flat-screen TV with Sky and other international channels.

Features

Restaurant and gym cover the basics

The hotel stays true to its roots of catering to both leisure and business travelers with early breakfasts from the full buffet. Breakfast is excellent and a bit unusual: beyond the standard continental fare, there's also Japanese offerings like miso soup and boiled salmon. However, it's not included and is eyebrow-raisingly pricey. Mainhattan Restaurant serves international fare for luncha dinner, and the lobby bar has a good happy hour with snacks.

There's a wellness area with a small, but adequate, basement gym, as well as a sauna and steam room. This property has five meeting rooms, plus a theater that holds 140 people. Like the rest of NH's properties, guests leaving on a Sunday can check out at 5 p.m. (as of summer 2017). Wi-Fi is free and available throughout the property, though it can run very slow. Parking affiliated with the hotel is opposite the property (though not run by NH) and carries a fairly reasonable per-night charge.
