Bottom Line

The appeal of the mid-range Apartamentos Fuentepark is easy to summarize: It’s inexpensive, well located, and tranquil. The resort may be petite and low on features, but it boasts a terrific location a half block away from the main commercial drag of town, close enough to walk to all the restaurants and shops, but far enough to be peaceful. The waterfront and its small beaches are a short walk away as well. The property has two pools and a poolside snackbar, though there’s no full restaurant. Its 76 apartment-style rooms, however, are a bit of a disappointment, with dated furnishings. But while they’re not stylish, they’re well outfitted with kitchenettes and balconies or patios. Travelers that don’t mind trading a central location for a bit more personality may prefer the Hotel Boutique & Villas Oasis Casa Vieja, which is also serene and affordable.

Fuentepark Apartamentos

Scene

A restful and intimate property with a pretty courtyard set with two pools

The petite Fuentepark offers a peaceful pocket of Fuenteventura, despite having a central location so close to town. A serene vibe is fostered from the get-go. Guests cross over a wooden ramp by a trickling fountain to reach reception. Just beyond that, two footbridges on either side of the lobby lead out to the apartment-style units and the property’s two pools. This is the heart of the resort, where many guests can be found midday dozing. There’s no piped-in music, no animation, and even with plenty of families, not much noise. Two-story units encircle the pool, both insulating the property and adding to its charming “Spanish casita” look. Judging by the public spaces, Fuentepark has plenty of charm, but that’s not entirely carried over into the rooms.

Location

A half a block from the heart of town, walking distance to the beach

A main selling point for Fuentepark is its location. Just a half a block away from the main commercial street of Corralejo, it’s near dozens of shops, restaurants, and bars. But that half block provides just enough buffer that the property is (mostly) insulated from the noise and bustle of town. A small grocery store is a two-minute walk away, useful for stocking the rooms’ kitchenettes. The town's little Waikiki Beach is just a four-minute stroll away, but the striking sand-dune beaches of the area (Grandes Playas) require a short nine-minute drive. The airport is a 37-minute drive away.

Rooms

Dated, dark, and a little worn, but equipped with the usual mid-range amenities

After passing through the charming lobby and peaceful courtyard pool area, rooms can be a bit of a letdown. They’re dark and decorated in old-fashioned textiles that don’t mesh with the tropical green walls. Rooms are also showing a bit of wear, with older fixtures, doors that stick, and scratches on furnishings. Still, all have balconies or terraces and kitchens with full-sized fridges, stoves, electric kettles, toasters, and some dishware -- but no microwaves. Other amenities include flat-screen TVs, safes (for a fee), and air-conditioning (a rarity in mid-range hotels here). Wi-Fi is supposedly only in the lobby, though on our visit the connection reached the rooms.

All units are one-bedroom, though the living rooms are equipped with sofa beds that could sleep a third person. Bathrooms aim for a little glamour with imitation marble in the vanities and large walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads, but the plastic cubbies used for storage bring it back down a notch, as do the ancient hairdryers. A small selection of toiletries are provided.

Most rooms have views of the pool, but a few have garden views, which can be quieter, especially midday when the pool is at its liveliest. In general, rooms are insulated from outside noise as well, but some windows facing the street can get a little noise from passing crowds.

Features

Two pools, massage center, and poolside snackbar -- but no full restaurant

The gathering point of the hotel is its two pools, both heated. One is a larger freeform pool for adults, the other a kiddy pool. A poolside bar provides snacks, but there’s no full restaurant, and guests are encouraged to use their unit’s kitchenette or walk to town for meals. One unexpected feature is the hotel’s massage center, offering a variety of treatments -- quite a perk for a hotel this size. The lobby offers luggage storage and a private shower to guests that arrive before check-in so they can freshen up. Free Wi-Fi is advertised as being in the lobby only, but on our visit, it did reach rooms (though connection could falter at times). Reception also has a computer workstation for guests’ use. Guests seeking excursions can rent bikes from the property or make plans with a tour operator that works out of the lobby.
