Bottom Line

This 301-room, three-pearl hotel is situated above the beach in Esqunizo, a quiet beach town in southeast Fuerteventura. The property is a five-minute walk from the sea, and a 10-minute drive to the nearest town, Solana Matorral. Rooms are traditional and dated, with limited amenities like air-conditioning and TVs, though Wi-Fi costs extra. Three swimming pools provide plenty of space for cooling off, and sports facilities include tennis and volleyball. Food is served on an all-inclusive basis from the buffet restaurant and small snack bar -- though all-inclusive drinks aren't available around the clock. Entertainment is offered at night and there area daytime animation teams. This is a quiet property, and those looking for a livelier atmosphere might consider the Hotel Fuerteventura Playa, an all-inclusive resort in Costa Calma.

SBH Club Paraiso Playa

Scene

Quiet mid-range, all-inclusive resort with a relaxed atmosphere, but in need of an overhaul

The SBH Club Paraiso Playa is a decent mid-range hotel, though expectations will need to be managed, as it certainly isn't the freshest option in the area. If tired and dated style doesn't bother you, the hotel makes a fine-enough impression. Sunshine streams through floor-to-ceiling windows in the lobby, and comfy chairs and couches are set all around. This is a relatively calm property that most guests visit for rest and relaxation, even though low-key entertainment and animation activities are offered day and night. This all-inclusive property also features well-maintained gardens, brimming with cacti and colorful flowers. During our 2017 visit we spotted plenty of people soaking up the sun beside one of the property’s three swimming pools, though the quiet vibe was a little disturbed by the loud music blasting from the main pool area. The hotel is particularly popular with mature couples and families from the U.K., France, and Germany.

Rooms

Tired rooms with air-conditioning and televisions, but no free Wi-Fi

With their patterned bedding, light wood-veneer furniture, and floral curtains, the rooms at Club Paraiso Playa aren't the most stylish we've seen, and look a bit tired and dated. Features here are fairly limited, and include old-fashioned televisions, telephones, and air-conditioning, but there’s a fee for safe rentals and Wi-Fi. Furnished balconies or terraces also come as standard, and some higher-category rooms have picturesque ocean or pool views. Suites feature two bedrooms, with balcony access from both rooms. Second bedrooms include a single bed, plus a sofa bed. Some bathrooms have shower/tub combos while others include stall showers. All have decent counter space, hairdryers, and toiletries. Four rooms have facilities for guests with limited mobility. During our 2017 visit we were told about plans to update rooms and bathrooms with contemporary decor, but check ahead on the progress if this is an issue for you.

Features

Three swimming pools, spacious sundeck with ocean views, entertainment, and sports facilities

Despite its size there aren't as many features at this resort as might be expected, but it has enough to keep short-stay guests entertained. The main swimming pool is a highlight, despite the loud music, and has plenty of loungers around the spacious sundeck overlooking the ocean. A second pool flows under the main building, and a smaller third pool is always heated. The beach is accessed via a steep flight of stairs that might not suit guest with limited mobility. A rooftop sun terrace overlooks the ocean and is a popular place to soak up the sunshine throughout the day.

Food is served on an all-inclusive basis from the main buffet restaurant or the snack bar. The restaurant has a themed dining event once a week, and it’s worth noting that the restaurant does not allow shorts in the evening. A small bar area has self service drinks machines that are handy for daytime drinks, and a snack bar serves local drinks, breakfast, lunch, cakes, and snacks throughout the day. Keep in mind that all-inclusive rates don't include drinks outside of designated hours, and aren't available 24 hours a day.

A tennis court and volleyball court can be booked at the main reception for free. There's also a games area with table tennis, table football, pool, and air hockey that's popular with younger guests. The fitness center is a little tired, with cracked flooring and dated machines, but serves its purpose. Doctors are on-site for an hour a day and there's a salon as well. The sauna, Turkish bath, and hot tub can be reserved for private use, although this area could use an upgrade. An on-site supermarket sells basic provisions and souvenirs.

Evening entertainment isn't extensive, but there is a selection of shows in the theatre including cabaret, casino, and live music nights. A mini-club for children has a sandy outdoor playground with swings, plus there’s a kids pool nearby. Animation teams also work during the daytime. All-inclusive premium guests get free Wi-Fi, safe rentals, and tea and coffee. Wi-Fi is available for a fee throughout the property for the rest of the guests, and the front desk can help with booking excursions and tours. On-site parking is free.
