Bottom Line

Built in 2014, this reliable budget hotel is located in a quiet area of Galveston, about a block from the waterfront. Rooms, with polished wood floors and private balconies, have a surprisingly upscale look, but only a few have ocean views. All come with free Wi-Fi, microwaves, and mini-fridges. The hotel has a pool and free parking, and is within walking distance of a cinema and a handful of restaurants. Days Inn is a safe bet for budget travelers, especially for families, as children 17 and younger stay for free. Travelers could also compare rates and amenities with the mid-range Courtyard Galveston Island Gulf Front.

Oyster Hotel Review

Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Galveston West/Seawall

Scene

Built in 2014, the hotel has a classy interior with dark-wood furniture and attractive embellishments

This four-story Days Inn looks like a box-shaped standard chain hotel from the outside, but once guests move past the bright-orange entrance, the remodeled interior is surprisingly classy for a budget chain. The breakfast room features black wood-framed French-style doors, black chairs with copper-colored cushions, and faux granite tables and countertops. The stainless steel elevators are set inside a brick accent wall. The outdoor pool area is clean but is surrounded by an iron fence with no landscaping, and a few plastic lounge chairs and patio sets.

Location

One block from the beachfront, on the west side of town

Although its address is listed on Seawall Boulevard, the hotel is closer to Stewart Road, a block farther from the waterfront behind another hotel. The area is open and quiet, as the hotel is situated on the outskirts of the west end of Galveston. There’s a cinema nearby on 89th Street, which is about a six-minute walk from the hotel. Several restaurants, including Galveston Island Brewing, are within a five-minute walk along Stewart Road. Galveston Fishing Pier is within a 10-minute walk. Moody Gardens is about a five-minute drive away, as is Schlitterbahn Water Park. George Bush Intercontinental Airport is about a 75-minute drive.

Rooms

Beautiful wood floors and balconies, and a few rooms with ocean views

With attractive dark-wood furniture, accents, and hardwood floors, these Days Inn rooms more closely resemble those of a mid-range hotel than a budget chain. Each room has a private balcony, but only a few have full ocean views. The indigo and dark brown walls convey a cool feel, and the appliances -- mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, microwaves, and coffeemakers -- shine. All rooms have free Wi-Fi and small dining tables. The Suites are slightly larger, with sofa beds and extra chairs but no separate bedrooms. Bathrooms are attractive with speckled granite countertops and large showers but no tubs.
