Bottom Line

The two-pearl Days Inn Gettysburg offers a clean, comfortable, and affordable place to stay a brief drive from the city’s famous landmarks. Its 112 guest rooms offer ample space and feature above-average wood furniture, microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. Some rooms also offer two-person whirlpool tubs. With a free continental breakfast, it’s a solid choice for anyone visiting Gettysburg who doesn’t require staying in the historic district. However, there are several good alternatives in the area, including the pet-friendly Super 8 Gettysburg, which has an indoor pool, free breakfast, and offers better rates on some dates.

Days Inn by Wyndham Gettysburg

Scene

Quiet, comfortable budget hotel catering to tourists on short stays

The focus of this Days Inn is on creating a quiet and comfortable atmosphere for the steady stream of tourists coming to spend a day or two visiting the world-famous town and its surrounding battlefield landmarks. Beige-tile floors and potted tropical plants greet arriving guests in the well-maintained lobby where a large wood reception desk with black granite top awaits. Adjacent to the desk is a sitting area with two squishy brown-leather sofas, a coffee/tea station, and a wall-mounted flat-screen TV where guests can catch up on news and weather as they plan their days. Throughout, the decor is cozy, if dated, and a small aquarium with goldfish helps make the sitting area feel homey. The lobby also pays homage to the hallowed ground of Gettysburg with framed art depicting scenes of the epic battle. The modest dining area just off the lobby also has a flat-screen TV and similar artwork, and this area sees the most activity in this quiet hotel.

Location

Outside the historic district, a brief drive to landmarks

The Days Inn is located on York Road, slightly northeast of Gettysburg’s historic district, about a four- to five-minute drive away. All of the city’s most popular attractions are a brief drive from the hotel, including Gettysburg National Military Park (12 minutes), Jennie Wade House (seven minutes), and Soldiers’ National Cemetery and Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address Memorial (both nine minutes). The Eisenhower National Historic Site is a 15-minute drive away, and the Outlet Shoppes at Gettysburg are 10 minutes away by car. Gettysburg College is a five-minute drive, and the Harrisburg Area Community College and North Gettysburg Shopping Center are four minutes away by car. Approximate drives times to regional airports include York (35 minutes), Harrisburg (50 minutes), and Baltimore (90 minutes). A few restaurants are within a one- to three-minute walk of the hotel, and many more are within a brief drive. There is city bus service, but it takes significantly longer than driving, especially from outside the historic district. Local bus tour lines can also make stops at the hotel.

Rooms

Clean and comfortable rooms with microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers

Rooms are clean and come in one-king or two-queen configurations. King units have upholstered sofas, while the two-queen options have armchairs. Both types have desks with upholstered wood chairs. The matching, light-wood furniture is a step above what’s typically seen in budget hotels and include headboards, distinctive round nightstands, desks, and large dressers that support 32-inch flat-screen TVs. The color scheme is primarily shades of brown, but the decor doesn't always hang together, and the two-tone patterned carpets and floral print comforters seem to come from two different decades. Walls are painted cream with rust-painted accent walls offsetting the beds. All rooms have coffeemakers, microwaves, and mini-fridges. Tan-colored granite vanity sinks sit outside the bathrooms, which have beige tile floors and standard white shower/tub combos. Some of the King Bed Suites have two-person whirlpool tubs placed in the bedroom areas, though they still have shower/tub combos in the bathrooms. While the rooms are generally quiet with little or no road noise, some past guests have reported hearing their neighbors in other rooms.
