The hotel is set in a historic building with red plasterwork and chunky window frames made of exposed sandstone on a pretty cobbled square. Downstairs, the building’s communal areas are set in vaulted medieval arches -- the lobby in one and the breakfast room in another. The tiny lobby is filled with overstuffed Chesterfield sofas in brown leather, while the restaurant is dominated by a white bar at the far end, and white-leather banquettes at the other. The hotel’s modern decor is set off by a plethora of sculptures by local artists -- Roman marble busts and medieval stone reliefs, for instance -- that serve as a reminder of the area’s history. The hotel tends to attract tourist couples looking to explore the medieval city.

Only a three-minute walk away from Girona’s cathedral, the Hotel Llegendes de Girona Catedral is ideally situated for exploring the pretty cobbled streets and squares in the town’s medieval center. A five-minute walk in the other direction leads to the Parc de la Devesa, a large green space in the heart of the city. Girona station is a 20-minute walk away, and Barcelona is a 40-minute train ride from the city. Expect transfers to Barcelona-El Prat to take roughly 80 minutes by car or 95 minutes by train.

Bright and contemporary, the hotel’s 15 rooms certainly make an impression with frosted-glass sliding doors leading to the bathrooms, embellished with choice quotes about Girona, crisp white linen, and minimalistic dark-wood furniture. Many have wood-beam ceilings or rock accent walls that contrast modern features like electric curtains and an LED light system. Double Rooms have a large bed, desk and chair, and bedside tables, while their bathrooms are cool and white, with a hydromassage bathtub sat atop white gravel. Junior Duplex Rooms, meanwhile, have a mezzanine level up a flight of stairs, home to a futon and flat-screen TV. Their bathrooms have shower stalls with rainfall showerheads.

Eros Suites have a definite adult theme with their mezzanine being given over to a tantric couch -- for which an instruction book is provided -- and a desk chair in the shape of a posterior. The Margarita Bonita Suite takes this theme further, offering guests adult toys, as well as visual titillation in the form of moody black-and-white prints of women in various states of undress. All rooms have a minibar, safe, flat-screen TV, and free Wi-Fi, plus robes, slippers, hairdryers, and toiletries. 

The Hotel Llegendes de Girona Catedral is light on amenities, although guests tend to appreciate what is on offer. In particular, most enjoy the continental buffet breakfast, which offers a variety of local Catalan charcuterie and cheeses, fruit, and bread baked in a wood-fired oven, as well as hot items available on request.
