Holiday Inn Express Glasgow – City Ctr Theatreland

This hotel draws a wide swath of budget-conscious travelers, from business guests to families and couples. While not particularly remarkable, it is a bright and modern option that's a step above other two-and-a-half-pearl options in downtown Glasgow. The hotel lobby is somewhat bland, with beige tile floors and a stark white reception counter. Plenty of tall windows let in lots of natural light, though, and they are lined with taupe drapes. The lobby area extends into the on-site bar, which opens from lunchtime until late in the evening, and has vivid red-and-tan striped carpets and matching chairs -- the vibe is airport lounge, but this is an express hotel after all. Guests can also make use of the hotel's breakfast room, which is decorated in navy blue and white and has a comfortable cafeteria-style ambiance. 

Located next to its sister property, the Holiday Inn Glasgow, this hotel is located in the heart of Glasgow's theater district. Guests are within a five-minute walk (or less) of the Theatre Royal, the Pavilion Theatre, and The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Business guests are conveniently located an 11-minute drive from the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Center, and a 20-minute drive from Glasgow Airport. For bars and eateries, Sauchiehall Street is packed with shopping and dining destinations, and is just a two-minute walk from the hotel. Paid parking is available across the road from the hotel.

There are 118 contemporary rooms available here, including both Standard Double and Twin Rooms. The hotel can accommodate families, as sofa beds are available in some Double Rooms, while wheelchair accessible rooms are also available. Fittings and fixtures throughout the snug rooms are practical, with custom fit storage space for guest luggage, double glazed windows to block out the busy city sounds, and black-out curtains. Beds have duvets with bright blue bed runners and light wood headboards, and simple wood veneer furniture is set about striped blue carpets. There is Kandinsky-inspired art on the white walls. All rooms include satellite channels on flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, and free Wi-Fi. Ironing facilities can be arranged via reception. Bathrooms are mostly fresh, with Grohe power showers and well-lit mirrors, though they are tiny and have only stand-up shower and small vanities. We did see some dirty tiles in the Accessible Room we visited. 

The hotel serves a free and extensive hot and cold buffet breakfast that includes fresh fruit, cereals, muesli, pastries, and croissants, as well as eggs, sausages, and beans. There is a bar located just off the lobby that is open from lunchtime until late. Computer, printing, and faxing facilities are available for guest use and there is a small on-site meeting room with a 20-person capacity. Laundry and dry cleaning services are both available. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and there is paid parking across the street.
