1

Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel

Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

The elegant and luxurious Blythswood Square hotel, housed in a grand Georgian building, overlooks its namesake square. While interiors are glitzy and modern, plenty of the building's original character and historical features have been retained. Rooms are sleek and contemporary, and while some are small and dark, all have attractive marble bathrooms and free Wi-Fi. The large spa with an impressive thermal suite and the chic cocktail bar add to the Blythswood's sophisticated ambiance. However, the quality of the breakfast service is reportedly inconsistent, which detracts from this pricey hotel's otherwise luxurious atmosphere.

Radisson Blu Hotel, Glasgow

Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

This Radisson Blu is a high-end, 250-room hotel occupying an eye-catching building in the center of Glasgow. The location means most of the city is within easy walking distance while also providing easy access by car and train. Rooms have designer interiors and impressive floor-to-ceiling windows, though some beds have been reported as being too hard. Access to the health club with a pool is a big bonus, while restaurant and bars are nicely styled -- albeit rather expensive. It is certainly one of the priciest options in town, but this is luxury 21st-century style.

Hotel Indigo Glasgow

Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

An upscale, artsy boutique hotel, the Indigo is located within a short walk of Glasgow's buzzing city center. A blend of Victorian architectural details and contemporary furnishings, this property manages to be elegant without being stodgy. Rooms are chic and attractive and come with great amenities, including free minibars. However, traffic noise can be an issue on lower levels and the bathrooms run small. The hotel's restaurant, Marco Pierre White, serves an excellent breakfast and reputedly one of the best steaks in Glasgow. It's open all day and well into the evening. There's also a small but modern gym and free Wi-Fi throughout.

Grand Central Hotel

Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

The 226-room Grand Central Hotel is an upscale, landmark property integrated into Glasgow Central station dating back to the late 19th century. After a period of decline, a huge renovation project relaunched the hotel to its former splendor. Rooms are generally spacious and, while there is evidence of some wear, largely nicely finished -- especially a batch of more recently renovated rooms. The champagne bar is a stunning place to enjoy a spot of luxury while the restaurant also serves an impressive menu. Although lacking a pool or spa facilities, its prime central location and reasonable room rates makes this hotel one of the city's more attractive options.
