Cotswold House Hotel & Spa

The lovely Cotswold House Hotel and Spa is situated in a Regency era building on the main street of the quaint and historic town of Chipping Camden in the bucolic Cotswold Hills. Surrounded by flower filled grounds that lay hidden behind the stone house, the property is composed of several buildings, including 16th-century cottages and the spa, which is housed in a converted coach house. The charming grounds are full of hedgerows, topiaries, and all kinds of greenery spilling onto stone paths that meander through the property. There’s plenty of garden furniture and picnic tables about, tucked away in charming corners and presiding over manicured green lawns.

Interiors are elegant and stylish, blending old-world charm with modern decor. The walls of the lobby are composed of dark mahogany panels that match the crimson carpet. The elegant space feels like a swanky living room, with textured black and white couches surrounding a glass coffee table and a lovely a fireplace. Fresh flowers scattered throughout are a nice touch. A beautiful wooden staircase in the hallway curls up in swooping circles to the top floor where a waterfall lighting fixture dangles from the decorative molded ceiling. The ambience is peaceful and attracts many Londoners looking for a serene weekend getaway, as well as travelers exploring the Cotswolds.

The Cotswold House Hotel and Spa is well situated on the main street of the historic and charming town of Chipping Camden, a historic market town surrounded by fields and farmland of the bucolic Cotswold Hills. Surrounded by honey-hued limestone buildings that line High Street, the hotel overlooks the village square and is bounded by beautiful gardens that occupy its two acres of grounds. High Street is lined with several restaurants, shops, and inns, and there is a bus stop serving several lines right across the street from the hotel. The hotel’s sister hotel, the Noel Arms Hotel, is right across the street. The historic Market Hall is a two-minute walk down High Street, and the gorgeous Hidcote Manor Gardens are a 10-minute drive. Chipping Camden is a good base for exploring the Cotswolds as well as nearby Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace, which is a 23-minute drive. London is two-hour drive away.

Several types of rooms are available at the Cotswold House Hotel & Spa, from Classic Rooms, to more spacious Superior King Rooms, as well as Suites and Cottages, including ones with private gardens and hot tubs. Decor varies, but is stylish and modern while still maintaining a country house charm with rustic touches such as exposed wood ceiling beams in many rooms and fireplaces in some units. All rooms have satellite flat-screen TVs, DVD players, coffeemakers, mini-fridges, work desks, and free Wi-Fi. Lovely modern bathrooms are stocked with REN toiletries. Rooms either overlook the lovely gardens or charming and historic High Street. Suites have gorgeous bathrooms with both freestanding egg-shaped soaking tubs and separate walk-in rainfall showers. Cottages are a short walk through the garden from the main house, and offer a quieter experience with more privacy.   

The lovely full-service spa offers a tranquil experience and wide list of treatments and services, including massages, facials, pedicures, and aromatherapy in six colorful treatment rooms. The facilities include a beautiful, if small, hydrotherapy pool, steam room, small relaxation suite, and lovely gardens surrounding this converted coach house, though there is no fitness center. Note that the spa is not located in the main building of the hotel, but a short walk through the gardens.

The Cotswold Grill serves delicious locally sourced and seasonal food in an elegant and contemporary setting, though some guests complain of slow service. The sunlit space is full of wooden furniture and rustic touches such as a stone wall and fireplace. The Grill serves breakfast, which is included in the room rates, as well as offering 24-hour room service. The adjoining bar is a cozy and elegant red-walled parlor with fireplace and gorgeous gilded-frame mirror. The hotel has another dining option, the Dining Room, which is a bit more upscale, with white tablecloth clad tables, floor-length purple curtains framing French doors that open out onto the gardens, and beautiful decorative ceiling moldings. The Dining Room is not open everyday however, and limited to Thursday through Saturday dinner service. There is also an outdoor Pavillion Terrace and Bar in the gardens that is open in the summer.

The property is suitable for various events including conferences and weddings, with meeting rooms and facilities accommodating up to 100 people. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
