More like an apartment building than a hotel, the Brasil is situated on a quiet residential street. It's a great place to escape the noise and the heat of the city, offering its own pool and proximity to the beach. It draws around an equal number of families and couples; families will likely appreciate the size and self-sufficiency of the kitchen-equipped suites (many can fit up to five guests), while couples can enjoy the tranquil vibe and chic, upscale room decor. Privacy is paramount, and there aren't many common areas to speak of here. The small lobby has deep red chairs, tourist brochures, loaner umbrellas, flowers, a glass-top front desk -- and that's about it. The look is clean, modern, and streamlined.

Glyfada is a posh seaside suburb south of Athens, and has been dubbed "the Beverly Hills of Greece." The hotel is located on a very quiet street, but there are many nice restaurants, bars, and shops blocks away. The beach itself can be reached in 10 minutes by foot. For those looking for some beach time without going all the way to the islands, the Athens Riviera -- stretching from Glyfada south to Cape Sounion -- is a popular choice. By car or taxi it's about 25 minutes from the city center, 30 minutes from the airport, and 25 minutes from Piraeus port. It can take twice as long by bus and metro.

There are four room levels, all have fully equipped kitchens, separate living rooms, and private outdoor space. The decor is modern with neutral tones of white, gray and black, accented with stainless steel hardware and wood floors. Beds have high-thread-count linens topped with lightweight waffle weave quilts and the attractive bathrooms are marble. Several suites can accommodate up to five guests. The Superior Suite, situated on the top floor, is a romantic spot with a peek-a-boo window framing a whirlpool tub and a gorgeous wood deck outfitted with lanterns. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, CD/DVD players, coffeemakers, quality robes and slippers, and minibars.

The main feature here is the rectangular courtyard pool, which is surrounded by greenery and has lounge chairs on offer both in the shade and sun. Brazil Cafe and Restaurant serves Brazilian and international fare (not to mention the free, hearty, hot breakfast buffet) in a clean, airy, white space with a full bar. Bar and food service is also available at the pool and through room service. Assistance with faxing, copying, transportation and tours is available at the front desk; some tours are offered at a discount. Wi-Fi and parking are free.
