Bottom Line

Set on the edge of Maspalomas, the budget Turbo Club is an apartment-style resort with an all-inclusive package. The 120 apartments are contemporary and have flat-screen TVs and small kitchenettes with stovetops. Outside, the resort has a large and attractive swimming pool in a terrace surrounded by mature palm trees, as well as a mini-golf course and a tennis court, and the animation team puts on family-oriented entertainment all day. The area around the resort is rather isolated, though there is a shuttle bus that drives the 10 minutes to the beach and back. Still, those wanting to be within walking distance of the ocean might want to check out the Santa Monica Suites.

Scene

Hotel with confused decor inside, and two attractive pool terraces

The decor at the Turbo Club is rather confused -- a case in point is the hotel’s buffet restaurant, where a slick and shiny, lime-green buffet counter sits in a dull room with dark-wood chairs, coral tablecloths, and mottled slate tiles. The bar is a dark space with a brown-and-white candy-stripe bar, and rattan outdoor chairs set around low, circular tables. Outdoors, there are two pools, each set in a separate courtyard surrounded by apartment blocks. The larger of these two pools has a bridge that leads to a pool bar set in its center, and a mini-golf course that snakes around the edges of the terrace, and a kids’ playground, while the whole area is shaded by mature palm trees. The Turbo Club attracts families looking for a budget base for some fuss-free fun in the sun.

Location

10-minute drive from the beach, but the hotel runs a shuttle bus

Located at the edge of Maspalomas, the Turbo Club is in a quiet part of town, surrounded by other hotels, and a two-minute walk from the small but attractive Parque Urbano del Sur. It is a 10-minute walk to the bright lights and rides of Holiday World Maspalomas, a popular amusement park, while the shops and restaurants at the Yumbo Center are a six-minute drive away, as is the 18-hole fairway at Maspalomas Golf. The hotel provides a free shuttle bus (10-minutes journey) to and from Maspalomas’ golden, sandy beach, three times per day. Expect transfers to and from Gran Canaria Airport to take around 20 to 25 minutes.

Rooms

Single-bedroom apartments with small kitchenettes and flat-screen TVs

The Turbo Club’s 120 apartments are all clean and contemporary, outfitted in a pleasant mix of gray tiling, white-wood furniture, and neutral linens. Black-and-white photos, floral-print throw pillows, and hanging lamps add homey touches. Apartments have bedrooms with two single beds pushed together to form a double, and open-plan kitchen/living spaces. The two areas are separated by granite breakfast bars with three stainless steel stools. Kitchenettes have granite countertops and backsplash, but they're basic, equipped with only two-burner stovetops, mini-fridges, and limited cookware. Bathrooms are contemporary and have walk-in shower cubicles. Each room has a furnished balcony or terrace, flat-screen TV, and air-conditioning. A safe is provided, but the hotel charges a hefty sum for the key. There is Wi-Fi in all apartments, but guests have to pay to access the network.

Features

All-inclusive packages, two pools, and mini-golf

The Turbo Club has a good list of amenities for an apartment-style property. Although rooms have basic kitchenettes, the property offers an all-inclusive package that covers three meals per day in the buffet restaurant, and local alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks and snacks from the pool bar. The pool bar is set in the center of the larger of the Turbo Club’s two pools. The bigger pool has a hot tub, while the smaller one has a shallow section for kids. Regardless, they're both set in sunny terraces shaded by tall, mature palm trees. A mini-golf course and tennis court are available, but guests have to pay to use either. In addition, there is a kids’ playground, and a stage where the animation team put on family-oriented entertainment throughout the day and into the night. There is Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, but access comes at a cost.
