Best Value Hotels in the Hamptons

This family-friendly resort is arguably the best value in the Hamptons. It may not be objectively cheap, but rates are very fair for what you get when compared to other hotel options in the area. The nautical-style rooms, suites, and villas overlook Lake Montauk. The views take advantage of the attached marina, bobbing with boats galore, and are crowned by a white lighthouse. The resort has more than 80 years of intriguing history, and though the location is not directly on the ocean, on-site activities and restaurants, and the free shuttles to town make it a draw for an amenities-filled Hamptons getaway.

The Ocean Resort Inn isn't a romantic spot for a honeymoon or a solitary seaside cottage for reflection. Instead, the pale yellow, L-shaped building encourages community, with its shared porch and courtyard with pastel umbrellas and picnic tables. All rooms are crisp and beachy, and have free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, small microwaves, and tea/coffee facilities. The hotel lacks a restaurant (or any breakfast service), bar, or gym, but there are six tennis courts, a pool, and a kiddy pool.

Smack dab between Amagansett and Montauk, the Sea Crest on the Ocean resort is a two-level condo property containing studio, one-, two-, or three-bedroom units. Studios contain efficiency kitchens, and all others have full kitchens; prices are among the least expensive in the Hamptons, especially considering the location steps from the beach. Units vary greatly in decor depending on owner, so ask for a description when booking. The main attraction here is the easy and free access to the beach, but additional highlights include the outdoor pool, charcoal grills, and tennis courts. Located just off the Highway 27 artery, a car is needed to reach local restaurants and attractions (and there's no restaurant on-site). Second-floor rooms are more likely to have a view of the ocean.

Owned by a local couple who live on the property, this waterside hotel is casual and comfortable, offering nice amenities like free Wi-Fi, free parking, barbecue grills, a heated outdoor pool, and green space, as well as reserved tee times for guests at the local golf course. Rooms are simple but clean and spacious and have pull-out sofa beds and kitchenettes, but balconies are shared which can limit privacy. Most rooms have a view of the ocean, but there is a main road that runs between the property and the beach.

Located between the tony South Fork that is the Hamptons and the more rustic North Fork of Long Island, this mid-range chain hotel caters to families with its indoor and outdoor pools, free breakfast, sporting equipment rentals, and proximity to the Long Island Aquarium and Splish Splash Water Park. Big rooms have comfortable furniture, practical amenities, and a few nice extras, like cotton herringbone throws, tea kettles, and alarm clocks with MP3 connectivity. 

The Haven Montauk is one of many limited-frills, bungalow-style motels in the area, but it has a trendier atmosphere than its neighbors, with bright modern colors injected into the beach-themed decor. Amenities in the 27 simple, stylish rooms include a mini-fridge, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, free Wi-Fi, and coffeemakers. North of downtown Montauk, the hotel is just a five-minute walk from the harbor’s bars and restaurants, and right across the street from a beautiful beach that tends to be very quiet.

The Royal Atlantic Beach Resort is made up of three motel-style, two-story buildings -- the main one located directly on the beachfront -- with porches running along the length of their facades. Decor is reminiscent of '70s-style motels throughout, and all rooms have free Wi-Fi, seating areas, kitchenettes with microwaves, refrigerators, coffeemakers, and two-burner stoves, and balconies, some of which face the ocean. The resort attracts leisure travelers seeking a budget beach vacation, and is especially popular with families and couples.

Renovated in 2014, the Montauk Blue Hotel is a modest budget property with clean, modern rooms and a great location right on the beach. Although the hotel has few on-site amenities, it's close to a number of shops and some rooms lead right out onto the sand. In addition to free parking and free Wi-Fi, the property also offers a clean and spacious indoor pool and whirlpool, as well as a large oceanfront deck for sunbathing. There is no on-site restaurant or gift shop, but vending machinesare available and there are a number of restaurants nearby.

The two-pearl Oceanside Beach Resort is ideal for couples and families who wish to be near the beach and walking distance to town. Rooms have a range of colorful styles, but all come with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and balconies or porches. Some rooms have kitchenettes, while Efficiency units have full-size kitchens, minus a microwave. However, there have been some complaints of noise in rooms.
