Bottom Line

Six South is a modern boutique hotel in Hanover; its prime location within walking distance of all parts of the Dartmouth campus make it a popular choice among visiting parents and alumni. Modern, spacious rooms have iPod docks, large flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi (although some may not appreciate the low lighting). The common areas -- such as the lobby (complete with reading nooks and free coffee) and the small fitness center -- are sleek and contemporary as well. Some still prefer the nearby historic Hanover Inn (which underwent a major renovation), but Six South's pet-friendly policies and fresh vibe add to its appeal.

Six South St Hotel

Location

Just off of Main Street in the college town of Hanover, NH, within walking distance of restaurants and quaint shops

Aptly named, Six South St Hotel is located on East South Street in downtown Hanover, near the Dartmouth College campus. This quaint New England town has seen the influx of some brand names -- such as J.Crew and Starbucks -- in the past few years, but it maintains a low-key, college-town vibe. The university is the main attraction, but visitors also come for the beautiful foliage in the fall season.

Many visitors who stay at Six South are visiting Dartmouth College (the epicenter of campus is less than a five-minute walk away). Dartmouth offers plenty to do, with a performing arts center and the Hood Museum, as well as numerous sporting events and an infamous winter carnival. Those in town for a longer stay may consider driving to several Vermont towns, such as Woodstock and Quechee (Vermont is right across the river). Guests staying at the hotel during the winter months will mostly likely want to ski.

  • 1 hour and 30-minute drive to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport
  • 2-hour and 20-minute drive Boston Logan International Airport
  • 2-minute walk to Main Street, lined by restaurants and shops
  • 4-minute walk to the Dartmouth green, the center of campus
  • 4-minute drive to the Montshire Museum of Science
  • 8-minute drive to the Norwich Nature Center
  • 15-minute drive to White River Junction, home to Northern Stage and numerous restaurants
  • 20-minute drive to Quechee, a scenic town, home to the Simon Pearce restaurant and glass factory
  • 20-minute drive to the Gile Mountain hiking trail
  • 30-minute drive to the Dartmouth Skiway
  • 30-minute drive to Woodstock, a beautiful New England town
  • 55-minute drive to Killington
  • 2-hour and 15-minute drive to Boston
