Bottom Line

Though it is part of the Holiday Inn chain, the Beach House Resort feels more like a boutique hotel. In early 2014, the hotel completed renovations to the lobby, opened a restaurant, and redid some of the common areas. This upper-middle-range property is a good value compared to other nearby resorts, and additional renovations throughout 2016 brought modern decor elements to most of the rooms. Guests who want a good look at the sea should note that rooms facing the ocean only offer a partial view obscured by trees and the pool area.

Beach House, A Holiday Inn Resort

Scene

Stylish look with nautical-themed accents

Updates to the interiors completed in 2014 have given the hotel a sophisticated feel. A soft blue and white color scheme extends from the lobby into the hallways. The artsy color photographs and other small beach-y and nautical-themed elements (such as porthole-style mirrors hanging by thick rope), along with chic, outdoor lounge areas, make the Beach House Resort feel much less like the chain hotel that it is. This extends to the trendy restaurant, tiki bar, and rooms, which received much-needed upgrades in 2016.

Location

Right by the beach and within walking distance of shops and dining

The hotel is just off a traffic circle and right by Coligny Beach Park, which is a public beach that can get somewhat crowded. The property is within walking distance of many shops and restaurants, including the nearby Coligny Plaza Shopping Center, and is about a 15- to 20-minute drive from the local airport, depending on traffic.

Rooms

Basic Standard rooms (though recent renovations have added stylish elements)

Renovations throughout 2016 introduced contemporary decor elements to the hotel's 202 rooms: white oak dressers, nightstands, and desks, as well as modern white headboards, nautical-themed wall art, and modern lamps were added to all but the Standard Rooms. Standard Rooms still have dark wood furniture and headboards, but the patterned bedding and ugly gray carpeting we saw on our visit have since been upgraded. Bathrooms received new vanities and Roman showers. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, safes, Keurig coffee machines, irons, and ironing boards. The bunk beds in the Family Suites are a fun touch. The oceanfront rooms have small balconies, but trees and the pool area block much of the sea views.

Outdoor tiki bar and popular restaurant

The popular Tiki Hut outdoor pool and beach bar hosts live music, and renovations completed in 2014 have made the space with the thatched hut able to be used year-round. The Porch Southern Kitchen & Bar gets high marks for the food and stylishly rustic atmosphere. The pool deck features some gathering spots, including a fire pit area. The hotel also has a small gym and offers bike rentals. The beach has plenty of lounge chairs, and a beach volleyball court. Events can be held on the beach, and there are also a few meeting rooms.
