Hollywood Beach Suites and Hotel

Hollywood Beach Suites is a cute, motel-style property set less than a block away from its namesake Hollywood Beach. Interiors have a charming "thrift store chic" aesthetic, with little details like wooden seahorses and teal ceramics adding a few punchy details and color to otherwise basic motel design. Units, which are housed in a trio of low-rise buildings, open onto leafy exterior corridors with outdoor sitting areas. Most of the small guest rooms feature bunk beds to allow for additional occupants, drawing groups and families.

The rainbow-bright on-site restaurant is the center of the action here, drawing a mix of guests and locals with its tasty tacos and upbeat vibes. It’s a fun spot for lounging in the evening, but some guests find late night noise can be a problem. On-site amenities are otherwise limited, but freebies like surfboards and beach chairs are thoughtful extras. It’s possible to find properties with more features around this price point, but the large number of guests that can be accommodated in each room make this hotel a decent bet for families and groups seeking affordable accommodation close to the beach.

Hollywood Beach Suites is pleasantly situated along a palm-tree lined side street that stretches down to Hollywood Beach. While the property isn’t right on the beach, it’s about a two-minute walk down to the coast, as well as to the lovely Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, which runs parallel to the sands. There are numerous restaurants and bars located along the boardwalk, within a 10-minute walk of the hotel. 

The Anne Kolb Nature Center is a 10-minute drive away or it can be reached in about 20 minutes by public transit. Aventura Mall is 15 minutes away by car. It’s a 30-minute drive to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport and a 40-minute drive to Miami International Airport. The hotel can also be reached from both airports by public transit.

Colorful knickknacks set the tone for Hollywood Beach Suites' bright and simple guest rooms. Details like vibrant coffee table books, canoe paddles, and beach photos go a long ways to brighten the basic backdrop of faux quartz floors, wooden furniture, and white platform beds. Rooms are cooled by wall-mounted air-conditioning units, plus wall-mounted flat-screen TVs are standard and free Wi-Fi is offered throughout. Tiny bathrooms come with pedestal sinks and narrow showers. Generic bars of soap are provided, along with pump dispensers of shampoo and conditioner.

The entry-level room category, Two Peas in a Pod, includes a kitchenette with mini-fridge and microwave. Sweet Suites and Family Suites add separate living areas that also serve as additional bedrooms, furnished with sofa beds and one or two sets of bunk beds -- the Family Suites, which have two sets of bunk beds, are particularly cramped. Suites also add larger kitchenettes with sinks, coffeemakers, toasters, and a wider selection of plates and cutlery. Some guests complain that rooms near the property’s open-air restaurant can be noisy at night. 

While it’s not right on the sands, Hollywood Beach Suites’ restaurant, Taco Beach Shack, channels casual, beachy vibes with its comfy outdoor sofas, twinkling fairy lights, and colorful Mexican-inspired mural. The restaurant specializes in tacos, burritos, and quesadillas, along with cocktails and Mexican beers. Food quality is good for the price and the restaurant is popular with non-guests. 

The property also includes a rec room-style lounge decorated with domestic tchotchkes like seahorse statues. It's decked out with a foosball table and two PCs for guests to use, as well as a sitting area with a wall-mounted flat-screen TV and cushy chairs. There’s also a pleasant patio with plastic rattan sofas and chairs with soft cushions. Abundant plant-life and a surrounding wood picket fence make for a nice backdrop. There’s an outdoor BBQ grill available for guests, along with free equipment like surfboards, bikes, and beach toys. 

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout and limited on-site parking is offered for a surcharge -- some guests complain that the lot fills up quickly. The hotel can also accommodate dogs for an extra fee.
