Bottom Line

Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is a luxury business property located in the busy Wan Chai neighborhood, with direct access to the adjacent Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The 545 rooms have neutral, pleasant decor and floor-to-ceiling windows -- often with views of the Victoria Harbour -- add both light and ambience. Although the main clientele here are business travelers, on-site amenities are almost resort-like, with nine bars and restaurants (a few serving buffets at breakfast and dinner), not to mention a large outdoor heated swimming pool, a spa, and a well-equipped gym. The property completed an extensive renovation in 2016, so everything is sleek and well-maintained, though there are complaints of construction noise nearby. Travelers may want to compare rates at the Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel, which offers similar rooms and amenities, plus a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Grand Hyatt Hong Kong

Scene

Luxury property with a corporate vibe that completed renovations in 2016

The Grand Hyatt occupies a dark slate-and-glass high-rise flanked by manicured shrubs and short hedges that looks more like a corporate tower than a high-end hotel. Inside, the lobby is much more grandiose and traditional, thanks largely to a multi-million dollar renovation that spanned a few years and was completed in 2016. The resulting look is one that blends traditional aesthetic with modern furnishings for a sleek yet comfortable result. The lobby has glossy black-marble floors under a round centerpiece rug and two wrought-iron staircases that lead up to an open mezzanine area with plenty of neutral-tone seating. Despite the on-site pool and spa, most guests here are business travelers, owing largely to the fact that the hotel is connected to the local convention center, though it definitely gets its share of tourists, too.

Rooms

Chic rooms and suites with subdued decor and floor-to-ceiling windows, many with harbor views

The Grand Hyatt offers 545 rooms and suites that finished being renovated in 2016. All have a similar decor scheme that's subdued and chic, if slightly corporate. All have floor-to-ceiling windows that brighten up the dark-beige walls and carpets and chocolate-brown trim, while pops of deep-pink on lampshades and Chinese art prints on the walls make the spaces feel more homelike. Across the board, rooms feature large flat-screen TVs with digital cable, kettles, Nespresso coffeemakers, minibars, and safes. Additionally, rooms come with smartphones that have free internet and free unlimited local and select international calls. Bathrooms are large and chic, with deep soaking tubs lined with cream marble, matching vanities with huge mirrors, and enormous walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads. Note that some bathrooms have windows that look out into the main living areas, but shades are available for privacy.

Entry-level Grand Deluxe Rooms have king or twin beds and garden views, while all the higher-category Grand City Deluxe units have views out over Victoria Harbour. Club Rooms and all suite types are located on the top seven floors of the hotel and come with free access to the Grand Club lounge, complete with free breakfast and evening cocktails. Many of the rooms and all of the suites have beautiful views out on the harbor, but there have been noise complaints from guests in some of these units due to the presence of an adjacent construction site.

Features

Large fitness center, lap pool with city views, spa, and ample event spaces

Although it's a business hotel, the Grand Hyatt offers a great number of on-site features that are equally appealing to tourists. Among the hotel's most attractive features is its 50-meter (164-foot) lagoon pool that despite its blob-like shape is long enough for lap swimming. The pool shares an 11th-floor outdoor patio with a poolside bar and a few rows of padded lounge chairs, and the space has decent skyline views on clear days. A 24-hour fitness center has modern Life Fitness-brand cardio equipment, plus pulleys, free weights, and kettle balls. Personal training and yoga classes are also available for a fee and workout gear is available to borrow free of charge. Next to the fitness center, Plateau Spa offers massages and body scrubs, with couples treatments available.

Business amenities include a business center, free (but sometimes slow or unreliable) hotel-wide Wi-Fi, and 21 event spaces for meetings, private banquets, and weddings. The Grand Club lounge, free for guests of Club Rooms and all suite types, has a meeting room that business guests can use for an hour per day, when available.
