Hotel Indigo Hong Kong Island

A bronze solar-fin dragon that wraps around the exterior of Hotel Indigo Hong Kong Island hints at the visually appealing interiors within. Inside, a mesmerizing light wall behind the sleek front desk changes colors next to a curved, cream-colored sofa. From above, a large electric blue staircase arcs between floors, and the elevators are outlined in golden light. The restaurant and bar slightly differ in style; the stylish rooftop bar pays homage to the old post office across the street with a wall of wooden post office boxes, while the restaurant features a golden tan color scheme and sleek hanging bamboo lamps. Most guests are business travelers that have chosen this hotel for its convenient location to business districts and the convention center. The hotel also draws couples that congregate at the pool or in the restaurant for a meal. 

The hotel is located in the Wan Chai district, an affluent neighborhood with popular nightlife and lots of restaurants in the surrounding streets. It’s also an ideal location for business travelers since the Hong Kong Convention Center is a 22-minute walk or a seven-minute drive away. Some attractions are accessible on foot: Wan Chai Market, a street market where locals shop for anything from clothes to snacks, is half a block away; and Times Square Hong Kong, a major shopping center, is a 17-minute walk away. The Wan Chai Ferry Pier is a seven-minute drive. To reach other attractions, guests can hop on the nearest tram -- which stops a five-minute walk from the hotel -- or walk seven minutes to the MTR Wan Chai Station. Causeway Bay, another shopping destination, is about 40 minutes via tram. It's about a 30-minute drive from Hong Kong International Airport, and guests have noted difficulty in locating the hotel upon arrival.

Rooms are stylish and modern, with bright pops of color and Chinese-themed decorative elements such as goldfish-patterned pillows, tasseled lantern lights, and red-and-black folding screens. Another significant feature is the floor-to-ceiling windows filling the spaces with natural light and providing views of the city. Rooms are well sized for Hong Kong, and the furniture maximizes space; for instance, some headboards have a build-in desk behind the bed. And all desks are thoughtfully outfitted with office supplies like staplers and attractively decorated with teal lacquered boxes and trash cans. Other amenities include flat-screen TVs with Blu-ray players and Bang & Olufsen speakers, minibars, air-conditioning, coffee/tea makers, and safes. Tea sets stamped with floral embellishments adds another atmospheric touch. Suites also have separate living rooms with large wraparound couches, while Superior Rooms have small blue loveseats in front of the bed. Lovely, luxurious bathrooms have an open spa design with broad vessel sinks, illuminated mirrors, teal tissue holders and soap dishes, and wicker baskets. Walk-in rainfall showers, hairdryers, robes, digital scales, and toiletries are standard in all bathrooms. But glass partitions between bedrooms and bathrooms or frosted glass walls around the toilets can be a privacy issue for some. 

One of the hotel's star features is its lovely rooftop pool, which has a glass bottom and offers views over the city, plus there's also a hot tub. There’s an on-site fitness center with four cardio machines with TVs, a large selection of free weights, towels, and yoga mats. Beyond 24-hour room service, guests can dine at Cafe Post, which serves local food with a twist. They can also enjoy indoor and outdoor seating at the on-site rooftop bar, Skybar, which serves snacks and drinks. A breakfast buffet is provided, though with an extra charge. Business travelers can choose from two fully-equipped meeting spaces, plus there's a 24-hour business center. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
