Bottom Line
The Mingle Place On The Wing is a 47-room, value boutique hotel in the heart of Hong Kong island's busy Sheung Wan district. While in-room technology features are impressive -- think Skype phones and free movies -- most rooms are small and showing signs of wear. Overall, although lots of thought went into the hotel's concept, there's not much in the way of substance or facilities. However, the location is great for being right in the thick of things, with the SoHo and Central districts within easy walking distance. While farther from the subway, the nearby Hotel LBP is a better option in the same price bracket.

Budget boutique hotel with arty concepts and very limited space
Despite its sleek and contemporary facade and jazzy signage, once inside the oddly named Mingle Place On The Wing there's little that impresses. The lobby area is cramped and often cluttered with luggage, and as the reception desk that can only service one guest at a time, check-in can be slow. A single elevator transports guests to one of 12 floors, each with decor and artwork illustrating the changing of the seasons throughout the year, while four room types are meant to depict the stages of life development. Besides the tiny reception there's nothing in way of common areas, lounges, or terrace space, which can give the place a claustrophobic feel. The third in a chain of boutique hotels opened by the Intexact Group, the hotel is aimed at young professionals, though it tends to attract budget travelers and backpackers.
Location
Set in the bustling heart of Hong Kong island's Sheung Wan District
The hotel is located in the heart of Hong Kong's Sheung Wan District in the northwest of the island, between Central and Sai Ying Pun. The surrounding streets are typically built-up and bustling with fast-food restaurants, local business, and retail outlets. The Sheung Wan MTR station is just around the corner, while the city's main Central Business District is just a five-minute walk away. A short 10-minute walk also takes visitors to the Central–Mid-Levels escalator and walkway system, which facilitates transport through the vibrant entertainment zone of SoHo. The Macau ferry terminal is also just five minutes away on foot, as are the leisurely trams that run along Des Voeux Road Central and across the island.
Rooms
Small and characterless rooms with impressive technological features
The hotel has 47 rooms, all of which are simply decorated in neutral tones with basic furnishings. All but the higher-end Deluxe Rooms are tiny and most show a few signs of wear and tear. In-room tech is impressive, with 37-inch flat-screen TVs (with a free library of hundreds of movies), and cordless Skype-enabled telephones. Some rooms also have digital light control panels, though these can be frustrating to operate. While all rooms come with air-conditioning and minibars, not all have windows, which can make small rooms feel particularly airless.
Features
Computer terminals and printing services, and little else
Outside the rooms there's little in the way of facilities. Two laptops provide Internet and printing services in the reception area, where guests can also purchase simple drinks and snacks while perusing a carousel of tour information. High-speed Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
